Comments:

Good stuff Andy. Did you notice that tsn.ca is keeping their 05-06 salaries up there? CBS sportsline keeps all the old stuff too. Of course it's way too much work to do a table like this one, but if you decide to look at just one team in detail like the Devils or Flyers, with almost exactly accurate numbers, then all the necessary tools are out there.

Oh wait a second... Did I miss something on the estimated cap number? How are you getting that?

I noted in the Legend where I was getting those Estimated Cap numbers from. They are here. They seemed off to me, too. The problem is, it says it is updated, but I don't know who is included. They might include every single player in a team's system. I mean, look at the Islanders one. It is way off. But they claim to be averaged, so I thought I would just throw them in. Then again,TSN's numbers seem screwy, too. Some of the numbers for the Central Division went down from the last time I did this, for example, even though they had the same or more players.

And yes, I knew about TSN keeping the old numbers.I have it linked on a post on SportsMatters.

If you want the particulars, go to players caps... he has all players done up in a spreadsheet.

better?

Andy, get MSN for christ's sake.

I have it. Hold on.

He's including guys who aren't signed in his cap number, which pretty much destroys the usefulness of the entire thing.

Well, just take those guys out. At least he has the length of contracts and dollars, and all in excel form. I don't know how I missed that Excel sheet.

Email me your hotmail account, Tyler. All I have is a bunch of gmail shit.

I can go through this Excel sheet now, and cut out who hasn't actually been signed. But if Tyler is already doing it, I'll just wait and get it from him.

At least I have it in Excel now. Lot faster than the way I was inputing before.

Interesting that every team except for the Penguins figure to be above the salary floor, which I believe is $28 mil this year.

I would add that the Caps have yet to sign (are going to arbitration with) Pettinger, Sutherby and Eminger (all of whom are key players) and Clymer, Bradley, Cutta and Fata (all of whom are varying degrees of dispensible).

Fata's going to arbitration? He should just take whatever the Caps are willing to give him and be happy with that. I can't believe he's still in the NHL.

Any way you cut it a lot of teams are screwed already.

I think a few teams (hello, Kevin?) are going to be able to pick up some useful players for very very cheap when the salary dumping begins in earnest.

Thanks JP. I looked at the list of guys on Washington, and for the most part thought, "who?" I will add them in if I do this again.

He's including guys who aren't signed in his cap number, which pretty much destroys the usefulness of the entire thing.

I have looked at the Excel sheet again, and am wondering if Irish Blues isn't corect in what he is doing. He isn't counting UFA's in his calculations, but is including RFA's. Technically, he is correct in doing so, right? I mean, his goal is different from ours. He doesn't seem as fascinated by where teams are right now as we are.
