A Tale of Two Offseasons

I don't know what preview magazine it was, but in the 7-Eleven last night I saw a cover that featured two players from Alberta's NHL teams. One of the players was Jay Bouwmeester. The other was Nikolai Khabibulin. Let's just say I didn't leave that 7-Eleven feeling very well, despite the bag of Super Melange I had just purchased.

Comments:

You're not calmed by the fact that Khabby has a Cup ring, while J-Bo doesn't even have a playoff *appearance*?

Get your head out of your math book, Poindexter, and get with the program.

It's the Poolers' Guide to Hockey, and I actually bought that magazine yesterday too.

Er sorry, make that, Hockey the Magazine's Poolers' Guide.

And I continue to be the only person who doesn't hate the Khabibulin signing. Excellent.

Mrs. Khabibulin likes it, too.

Let me echo: Very nice to see this place getting used again.

Anyone else agree that the only preview magazine worth buying is McKeen's?

All the other ones just don't cut it. It's embarrassing how much The Hockey News version has slid downhill the last 10 years or so. Worse every season.

Don't buy any of them. Don't read any of them. Couldn't care less about such publications.

Couldn't care less

Applaud your correct use of this term. It's a bit annoying to read it used "could care less".

I'm more agnostic on these books (there's some good and some bad in all of them), but here's a snippet from the recent THN Yearbook on the topic of "the next Lidstrom":

"Jay Bouwmeester - Not in the same group as the others; and, for a 26 year old with his skills, he leaves you wondering why he doesn't have more impact..."

The others he was being compared to included Shea Weber, Mike Green and Dion Phaneuf.

Super Melange? What the hell is that?

As an Oilers fan I tend to go for Super Malaise. Now that's good stuff.

Yep, the Oilers lineup is a real boner killer.

My favourite drunken 7/11 purchase is Smartfood Popcorn, hands down. Not that I eat it all -- every morning after I wake up with the shit all over the floor or in my hair.

Ah, if only this year were more like the good old days of The Vaunt, when we actually had hopes for the Oilers, and it took a series of NHL games before we realized that the team was built for failure.

The memories...

God, you're disgusting.
