Battle of Alberta Game Day

A brief recent history of the New Year's Eve game:

2005: Flames beat Oilers 6-5, on a crazy double-deflected shot by Huselius with barely one minute left.

2006: Flames beat Oilers 4-2, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 10 and it never got any closer

2007: Flames beat Canucks 2-1 in a horribly tense one.

Tonight it's Flames v. Oilers once again (8PM MT, TSN), and whatever your proclivities, I think you gotta like the Flames. Call it Calgary 4, Edmonton 3. Happy New Year! And Go Flames.

Comments:

I have to admit, this game worries me a bit. The Flames have had a pretty successful run in December, but didn't seem to have that edge on Monday that drives wins. With Edmonton playing well recently, we could underestimate them.

On the other hand, a rivalry is likely to have us fired up, and with Hemsky out there's no question as to who the better team is when both are playing at their best.

Word Verification: dionvent. What Edmonton fans will need to do when Phaneuf takes a shot at Roloson while Roy is on the ice.

GOILERS!!!

Oh lol I just read that this blog is supposed to be for Oilers fans as well as flames fans.

Now flames, I know that just because you have Iginla and Phaneuf, it's no reason to look down on us poor bastards up highway 2.

We've got Shawn Horcoff, all star center!

And so many dynasty experts running the club, that I'm sure that we will get that 6th cup that's been somehow eluding us since 1991. Anyway that's what Kevin Lowe's been telling us for the past few years.

There. I've said it.

Has ended!!!

continues...
