Pre-season Battle 2: Pre-SEASONER
We got Kipper hoping to play a looooottt better than Wednesday. We got Rhett Warrener trying what might be one last time to convince Keenan and Sutter that he belongs. We got Robimus Prime doing the same for MacT and T-Bone. We got Steve McIntyre looking for a canoe ride that probably won't happen. We got a bunch of top players on both sides sick or resting.
And we have the vocal stylings of Peter Loubardias and Charlie Simmer on Rogers Sportsnet West at 7PM MT, assuming Rogers doesn't cave in due to thousands of outraged phone calls from Red Sox Nation (Canadian Prairies / Basic-Cable-Subscribing chapter). Go Flames.

Comments:
As I've said before, you gotta know Simmer sucks when you're ecstatic to find out that John Garrett is the colour guy.
Sounds like someone brought an honest to goodness trumpet. And what's more, he was on pitch. I didn't know Calgarians could do that.
8.5M it is. Though it would also seem that the Flames are over the cap. Who's getting the axe?
haha. word verification: dosy b. New name for Bertuzzi perhaps?
4-0 Sox in half an inning. WOOT!!! I guess Simmons can stop his whining about the Manny trade. Bay has two homers and 5 RBI already.
Kipper is a slow starter!!!1!11!
Yeah, I hope he's not in a death spiral. That's a lot of cash to bury in the minors for 4 or 5 years.
Deslauriers' probably thinking "I thought I was done with this 40 shots a night shit when I left Springfield." Of course, he's also be thinking in french.
I wonder how many penalties we're going to need to get a powerplay goal. Probably less than the 4 the Falmes needed.
I like the cut of that MacIntyre kid's jib. He could go a long way. He reminds me of a young Eric Godard, except that he's older.
With Phaneuf out and a lot of TOI available, I think Giordano is having his best game of the preseason. He seems to make really good decisions, both defensively and on the PP, for a guy with only 40-odd NHL games.
hbomb:
Where he took that shot, I'd be surprised if he didn't shatter an ankle.
Is Bertuzzi the new Ethan Moreau?
Is Bertuzzi the new Ethan Moreau?
Maybe. Did Moreau do something to offend the gods and start his run of injuries?
Where that puck hit Bertuzzi...right in the back of the ankle....there's shagall for padding back there, isn't there?
Well that was an interesting bunch of scraps. Moreau looked like he wanted to do anything other than fight.
Couple more major penalties and Schremp might start getting a regular shift.
Couple more penalties, and Kipper might be moved to a position he's good at.
Serious question: I'm a bit rusty on my "Code" -- is the Vandermeer thing settled now, or does MacIntyre still have to sucker punch David Moss or something?
Vezina Trophy, YouTube highlights. Yeah, that's a reasonable comparison.
For 8 million less, I'll take the YouTube guy.
"Jarome Iginla has been, I think, the best player in this game."
Peter Loubardias: not afraid to be controversial!
Try JDD, how many shots did he face in the 2nd, like close to 30!?!
Now I can see why the Oilers don't want to risk him on waivers.
Glencross loves that Saddledome. He may yet score 82 goals in that building this year, if last year and the preseason is any indication. ;)
My god, I could not be more worried about Kipper. If this is him trying to "hit the ground running", imagine what he would look like if he were starting "normally".
Flames looked like the far superior team with the far inferior goalie for most of the game tonight.
And what Matt said about the death spiral? Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at right now too.

My count was 24 -- a full night's work for Chris Osgood. Five consecutive penalties in the span of less than five minutes does that.
Also, dipshit stick penalties from veterans never helps under any circumstances. Thanks for coming out, 24 and 18.

Great to know that we've got those two under contract for another three seasons each.
Memo to S-Tam and K-Lo...if you're 8 points out of the playoffs at the deadline and can find takers for those two - do it. There are likely adequate replacements via the UFA market.
Hell, Lowe already screwed up by not signing Glencross and making him Moreau's heir apparent, or even by keeping Moreau and dealing off Torres....LW could have been a strength on this club (still is in a sense, with Cole/Penner), but if/when Moreau goes down, it becomes a weakness rather fast....
I'm still not worried about losing Glencross for that kind of money. Show me something not in the preseason against a minor-league goaltender and we can talk.
A double post doesn't count if there's hours between them, right?
Did anybody else catch the Leafs tonight? There aren't even adjectives to describe how bad CuJo looked in that game. It was like Bill Ranford in his return to the Oilers, except even worse. He let through a short-angle five-hole goal that almost no midget goalie in this country would have let in on a hundred attempts. It was hilarious. I missed hockey.
