Darryl Sutter: Always likes to warm up the crowd with a joke

Stop the presses — despite being one of the most productive players during the pre-season, forward Dustin Boyd has been sent to AHL Quad Cities along with D Anders Eriksson and C Jamie Lundmark.

D Rhett Warrener, waived earlier in the week, goes on IR.

Boyd had seven points in the pre-season to share the team lead with David Moss. The Flames are currently flying to Vancouver, so no one from the club is available for immediate comment.

Well, I know my sides hurt! I'm excited for when Darryl breaks out that legendary Sutter character and straight talk, and explains to the media that this was a hockey decision. Or maybe he'll say "Geez, maybe I shouldn't have signed Nystrom, Prust, and Roy to one-way deals." Mm-hmm.

Comments:

Even if this is some short-term ploy or technicality and Boyd returns to the team tomorrow...I find this ridiculous. If his absence extends beyond that, however...

It's appalling.

What? Did Kevin Lowe become the GM of the Flames?

it is 100% mismanagement in the raw. the ONLY reason that boyd gets demoted over nystrom or prust is because of his 2-way deal. it is pure number-crunching and anything out of sutter other than an apology to fans is unacceptable.

this is the beginning of the end.

Sweet Jizzle Chrizzle, that's good news!

Boyd looked plenty dangerous this preseason.

This is just stupid. I'm livid.

It was only seven points. And it was the pre-season. I've heard the pre-season doesn't really mean much.

What? Did Kevin Lowe become the GM of the Flames?

Yeah, remember that time Andrew Cogliano scored seven points in the preseason and Lowe sent him to rot in the AHL? That was totally awesome.

He'll be back as soon as they figure what they're doing with Warrener. Trust me.

Oh, no doubt. The thing is, they should have figured it out months ago.

Yeah I seem to remember a bunch of guys making the Oilers last year, outplaying guys who had better pedigree or one way deals or both.

Nothing like telling your young guys that politics trumps performance.

Here's hoping he gets recalled on the 19th of October.

Fellow Manitoba boy who deserves his shot...

After the home-and-home with Edmonton that is.

On AM 960 Sutter said "That is the roster today. You know it changes day to day." (insert wink wink here). He then went on to say they needed a medical accessment of Warrener, to determine if it is long term IR.

I've heard the pre-season doesn't really mean much.

Who the hell gave you that crazy idea?
