Battle Game Day: Game Day Edition

Flames @ Oilers, 7PM MT, RSN West. The game itself looks to be a bit anti-climactic, what with the big news today that new Oiler GM T-Bone has claimed Steve MacIntyre off of waivers from Florida.

Nothing from either team's website yet about lineups. I love surprises! Go Flames.

INSTANT UPDATE! I slouch corrected: Kent has the lineups via Rob Kerr. What are the odds we see Andre Roy vs. Lefebvre? 99%? Higher?

Comments:

I'm confused. Two Game Day threads?

But wait! There's more!

God bless hocky.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but is Mr. Macintyre the first WHA2 alumnus ever to be a member of the Oilerganisation? THE PEOPLE DEMAND TO KNOW!

I want MacIntyre in the line-up tonight. Then he can take the rest of the year off.

Oiler GM T-Bone has claimed Steve MacIntyre off of waivers

Apparently we needed Jason Strudwick insurance?

Quick sidenote: I'm glad the geniuses at Sportsnet decided to run Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown instead of the White Sox/Twins one-game playoff tonight. And Doug MacLean is the guest.I know I'm happy to be watching two idiots in a radio studio talk instead of watching an actual, meaningful sporting event.

Jesus, Andy, get extended cable. The ball game is on Sportsnet East, Ontario, Pacific, and HD. The only one not showing it is West, because the hockey game would have started in the 5th inning.

I so knew you were going to say that. It shouldn't matter. It should be on RSN West, too. There's no reason they couldn't cut out after five innings. In fact--and I know it will be heresy here--it should take precedent over the pre-season hockey game.

But yes, I am finally going to cave and get digital cable, so that instead of having solid programming on one or two stations, Canadian broadcasters can continue putting out mediocre programming on five of six stations, and fatten their profit margins by charging me for each.

Don't even get me started on HBO "Canada" and the CRTC. Or the lack of MLB Extra Innings on Shaw...

...it should take precedent over the pre-season hockey game on the channel I already subscribe to, because by purchasing it it should suit my preferences exactly.

Fixed.

Huh?

I take it back. I want the pre-season hockey. I think I finally care again. It took one minute of Principe, and I was sold.

Instantaneous analysis of DeBrusk: pretty damn good. Not a single stutter or screwup.

Phaneuf. I just puked in my mouth.

That was ugly. Oh, and the goal sucked too.

I take it all back -- Primeau is fantastic. You can project three shifts out to a season, right?

woo hoo! The Dion claims first blood in Battle 08-09!! It just doesn't get any better than that!

And nice pass up the middle there on the power play by the much improved Oilers defence.

NHL Game # is 10066, so Corsi stuff is here, shift chart here.

Well...I hate ES play anyways.

This is the most boring game in history.

Well, Edmonton citizens now know who Carl Corazzini is. Jesus that was close.

And Roloson's five has been like the Holland Tunnel tonight...

What a great play by Mosser at the end there.

Constant chintzy penalties suck, but frankly, I enjoyed the Flames' domination of that period. Is Horcoff really playing? Don't think I heard his name once.

Is Horcoff really playing?

I can explain. I just picked him for my pool yesterday, so...

We sure heard Primeau's name a lot, though. I wonder who that is in the Wayne Primeau shirt.

Primeau's shot off the post inspired DeBrusk to bring up Wendel Clark(!). Never has the phrase "too good to be true" been more obvious and appropriate.

Boyd is a monster out there right now.

Fuck, what a great shift.

Quick, someone run Boyd before he does more damage to us.

Where's this MacIntyre chap?

What the hell is wrong with Edmonton's ice? That puck's bouncing like a superball.

This game is zzzzzzzz.

I need clarification from Quinn and DeBrusk about the Kid Line: are they overmatched by Boyd and Moss, or are they teh awesome, reminiscent of Kent Nilsson, etc.

Cause they said both in the span of 3 minutes.

Think so? I've enjoyed it so far.

Yep, I miss Ferraro. There is no other.

Man, the Oilers are just sleepwalking tonight...

Oh God. Softie.

haha...this is men against boys.

Kent W: Thanks for calling us boys. It's a compliment right now.

New blog suggestion: Battle of Roy.

this game is gross. can you be embarrassed in the pre-season?

roy on roy crime. first ever?

Woot! How could anyone call this game boring!

Definitely seems to shaping up as a Winston Wolf game for Oiler Land.

At least you guys won that fight. I guess.

The ice might be the worst in the league at this point.

Seriously Rexall Group, spend less than a million and get a new ice plant. You'll get your new arena either way, I promise.

Horcoff must have emailed his psychologist.

How many times did GlenX just say "you know" in that interview?

New glossary addition? "You-know?"

This is just rope-a-dope for the regular season, right?

Seriously Rexall Group, spend less than a million and get a new ice plant.

It was 28 degree here today, and it's the end of September. So I'll cut them a little slack.

Dubnyk!

Haha! Sheldon Souray got 5-holed!

Man, Calgary bent Edmonton over and slipped it in.

Pizza 3-4 times a week?

Was Rob 250lbs? I know fat people that eat less than that.

I'm sick of Principe's puns already.

I honestly don't think I've heard the names Hemsky or Cole all night.

Hopped over to the MTL game... Totally different atmosphere. Did Pouliot give everyone mono or something?

Andy, I heard Hemsky's name once. When he missed that breakaway.

Fuggin GlenX

Seriously, is it just me or are all the Edmonton passed just sloppy and bumbling tonight?

Er...passes

That Glencross looks like a pretty good player. McIlhenny, too.

Hemsky, Cole ... not so much

Spurgeon. God bless him.

Spurgeon impressed.

But, I don't know about you guys, but I'm planning the parade now. The Flames are going to be undefeated this season and win the Stanley Cup in only two rounds. You heard it here first.

Oilers fans can take a small victory out of today. At least we don't have a goalie captain.

Agreed. You have no captain. Moreau should be out of a job after this brutal preseason.

As much as it pains me to agree with an anonymouse, he's got a good point. Moreau's not captain material on this team because simply cannot inspire a team offensively like a Horcoff or a Hemsky could do.

What the hell is wrong with Edmonton's ice? That puck's bouncing like a superball.

I can't be the only one who's noticed they're making it slightly worse every year to build support for the new rink.

Announcing your new Edmonton Oiler Captain.. ROB SCHREMP!

I can literally see Hemsky's thighs quaking with offensive inspiration as he watches Schremp lacross a puck into an empty net! Swoon!

But all jests aside, I agree, we need a captain with some offensive instinct if we're ever going to get back to the playoffs, we need Jason Smith wearing the C again.

My point was that Luongo is the leader of the Canucks. He was shown standing and addressing the team in some locker room footage from last year.He is simply the best Canuck, who also leads by example.
Moreau however has missed pretty much the last 2 years, and even on his healthiest isnt much of a scorer or anything else. Bad bad bad captain...

So wait, is your argument that Moreau isn't a good leader because he can't score (false, as previously noted) or that he isn't a good leader because he gets hurt a lot (maybe fair)? Make up your mind.
