"The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Denis Grebeshkov to a one year contract, financial terms of the deal were not made available." --TSN
Oilers press release here. Glove tap to Mirtle the Turtle for the heads up.

Comments:
My guess is that Glencross and Pouliot are next.
Hopefully followed by Pitkanen.
Hopefully NOT followed by Stoll and/or Reasoner.
where's the time wasting? where's the waiting to the absolute last minute? where's the media coverage so that players can bring negotiations into the public arena? these aren't my oilers and for once i am damn happy!
How can they release this without the terms??? How can we evaluate every nook and cranny of the contract without the numbers? How do we have a spirited debate (no, argument) about whether it's a good deal or not?
Why would they do that to us? :)

I'm sure you'll get your wish once they start dicking Horcoff around.
I like the deal if it's less than $2.0MM. I was on Grebeshkov's side early in the year thinking he'd come around - though not in my wildest dreams did I see him playing the way he did down the stretch. That said, I wouldn't want to pay the man for two months of good hockey.
Neither side knows what they really have here. Will he be the Grebeshkov of November or the one of March. Best to wait and see. Lowe's taking enough of a risk in the Gilbert signing this year. I'd like to see Joni sign a one or two year deal as well at somewhere near $3.5MM per.

I think that is highly unlikely.
Too high? Too low? Too Short?
I'd say too low for what Pitkanen is likely asking, even with a shortened term.
Yup, TSN is also reporting the $1.5 million.
Rough, uneducated stab at what it might take to do a deal with Pitkanen?
These would be my guesses as to possibilities
1 year, 4 million.
4 years, 18 million.
6 years, 28.5 million.
Two year deal is a no-go from an Oiler perspective, because that would take him to UFA status.
I'm expecting a one-year deal at this point and then a decision on either 25 or 37 next summer. Although a four year deal would be a pleasant surprise.....
I'd take 4 years at $18.0MM in a second for Joni. Looking forward and assuming a few things there should be enough room to sign Cogliano and Gagner in the $2.5-$3.0MM per season each when they become RFAs.
I don't think Joni would sign that deal though as it gives up two UFA years and I doubt he thinks that's enough.
Andy, I disagree on $7.0MM over 2 yrs not being enough to get him signed. It's the ideal situation for Joni and a reasonable deal for Edmonton too. He'll walk the following year though but that's how this CBA will work. Hopefully in two years Gilbert Gilbert and Grebeshkov can carry the offensive load.
T
Oh, I agree that it's reasonable, T. I just don't think Pitkanen thinks it is. If it was, wouldn't it be done already? Knowing what Lowe has signed others for, including Gilbert, wouldn't he have jumped on $3.5 a year?
