Flames Game Night

The Flames play their last four on the road, and the Canucks play their last four at The Carhole; it starts tonight (8PM MT, RSN West).

It depends a bit on tonight's other results, but realistically, a Flames loss probably means a 6th seed at best; a W (particularly in regulation) obviously keeps the NW title well in play as well as 5th place. (My answer to the question, "Wouldn't you much rather open in MIN as the #6 than in ANA as the #5?" is No.)

Fun flashback: the comments to a February 29th post where I guessed that the Canucks would miss the playoffs.

Calgary 3 (Iginla, Tanguay, Moss*)
Vancouver 0 (duh, nobody)

Gooooooooooooo Flamezzzzzzz!!!!!!!

(*Jedi Mind Trick on Mike Keenan: put Moss back in for Nystrom, please)

Comments:

A counterfeit jeans ring operating out of my carhole!

Go Flames.

big game tonight, eh?

maybe it'll be cujo* getting the shutout, eh?

(*Jedi Mind Trick on Mike Keenan: put Cujo in for Kipper, please).

it still makes me smile to see oilers fans cheering for the flames.

I always thought it was "carhold".

Go Lames!!!

That flashback isn't much fun at all, actually.

You've got the right score, but the wrong team winning. The Flames are going to come out ultra-flat after that deflating loss last night, and the Canucks are a desperate team.

Go Canucks!

go falmes

(No, I can't even be bothered to capitalize it. I'll do it, but I don't have to like it.)

Flames please.

I've got a fever, and the only prescription, is more FALMES HOCKEY!

I am sure it was "carhold" too Metro.

Now as for the Flames, go out there and do us Oiler fans a favour.

Unlikely we'll make the 'offs, but hey, a fan can dream right?

Go Flames!

I hate myself for saying that.

Good call on Moss.

Matt,

Why don't you want to play the Wild? They look terrible now, hell they've looked bad for a while. And Demitra has faded into oblivion ... from difference maker playing against Iggy all night to a guy playing rookie minutes and opp. Plus Backstrom is looking a lot more human this year, especially lately.

I dunno, if I was a Flames fan I'd be painting a playoff target on Lemaire's team this year.

What a tremendously crazy first period.

Flames players diving all over the place, running poor Luongo, and the refs screwing the Canucks at every turn.

But the Canucks shall overcome!

Hehehehehe...

This should be the Western Conference final match-up.

This should be the Western Conference final match-up.

i think you meant the western conference participation ribbon match-up.

oh boy...mr i like getting pulled b/c i don't have any excuses and i'm just dead tired (is that the full name?) just got pulled!

could the falmes be in the middle of a 5 game losing streak?

One of those nights for Regehr. Worst showing by that guy in months.

Joy! Rapture! Divinity!

And Jim Hughson's voice calling the whole damned thing!

So much less fun when your fate is in the hands of another.

Must be killing the Oil players watching Nashers get a point and now the Canucks take it to the Flames tonight.

Come on Iggy, you know you got another hat-trick left in you, and who wants 50 when they can have 52?

Now to bed so I can wake up tomorrow and read all about the Flames HUGE comeback in the 3rd to win 7-6. =(

Bingo, and Aucoin has been teh suck with teh puck. And Sarich has been no good either. And they look rather hamstrung trying to come back missing two of their three main centres.

Overall balance of play has pretty even I think, but those scoring chances that the Dys have converted were pretty cherry...

(Either that, or Charlie Simmer has it pinned down: "Their intensity level needs to be more consistent.")

Ahhh Simmer...so sage.

Aucoin has been looking slower and dumber as the season has progressed.

Well, that was decidedly crap.

Did they switch the Regehrs up on us?

You know what? Forget the Falmes. Cheering for them to beat the Canucks is like picking the lesser of plague and cholera.

We weren't going to make the playoffs anyway. Bah!

You say bah, I say hooray.

Trevor Linden. Trevor Freaking Linden.

Lord Bob

Brilliant :)

what do you mean, Lord Bob, now it's all about helping the real cause.

GOILERS!!!!

Uni: Lord Bob: If we win our last two. Calgary looses all four (looking like a possibility.) We don't have to worry about Nashville we just need Colorado to beat Vancouver.

The Calgary performance opened up another posibility. Long But more realistic than Nashville losing two.

Here's hoping the Canucks run the table.

All of your 8th place are belong to us... as they say.

Was at the game tonight. Regehr sucked because he didn't stretch much pregame! haha.
Phaneuf was giving Nuck players the evil eye at center ice during warmup.
In the end he didn't intimidate anybody!
Flames got outplayed and out-muscled.
You should have seen all of the dicks in Flames jerseys going home crying tonight in Vancouver. I laughed.

Hmmm, so....IF:

Edmonton beats Calgary AND Coloado beats Vancouver Tuesday.

THEN,

Minnesota beats Calgary and Edmonton beats Vancouver on Thursday

THEN,

Vancouver beats Calgary on Saturday

Would that mean what I think it means? That the Oilers make the playoffs by beating out BOTH Calgary and Vancouver in the standings?

Oh, would that ever be the dream scenario. All I care about is the Oilers winning their games though. If they finish with 90 points and miss, I'd could live with the knowledge of the following:

- The team not giving up
- Burke drafting no higher than ~12th
- The promise that next season will hold.

GOILERS, and GOANYONEPLAYINGCALGARYORVANCOUVER*!

(*In the case of the Flames playing against the Canucks, the best case scenario will be determined on Saturday based on the results of the games between now and then).

You should have seen all of the dicks in Flames jerseys going home crying tonight in Vancouver.

i'm sure the number of dicks in canucks jerseys outnumbered them.

hbomb,

might as well add:

St. Louis beats NSH in SO
St. Louis loses to NSH
CHI beats NSH and wins out.

standings would then be:
6. COL 93+ pts 43 wins
7. EDM 90 pts 42 wins
8. CHI 90 pts 41 wins
VAN 90 pts 40 wins
CAL 90 pts 40 wins
NSH 90 pts 40 wins

Which would be just hilarious.

Given that the presence of Toews has converted me into a bit of a Hawks fan, and that Nashville on on my shit list of teams I do not generally like (Anaheim, Vancouver, Calgary, Dallas, Toronto and Carolina being the others) I'd approve of that highly improbable scenario.

If the Oilers get in and the Falmes and Dys miss, that would be a miracle to end all miracles. Like, it would be hysterically miraculous. It would make the Finals run look like a 3-2 shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
