Absolutely...Perfect

Great article by Chuck Klosterman on perfection in sports up on ESPN today. The first full paragraph is, well, perfect.

Comments:

Guess the question for the Pats' is:

Would you rather be famous or perfect?

I'd take famous, and I am guessing the Pats will as well.

I've seen Belichick's cut-off hoodies enough to think he could care less about being famous. And as he goes, so goes his team. My guess is they want perfect, and they want it bad.

I meant to say I'd take perfect, and I am guessing the Pats' will as well.

Great blog, one of my faves.

my dream end to the super bowl

"eli now that you've won the superbowl, what are you going to do?"

"i'm going upstairs to kick peyton in the junk and then i'm going to giselle's place to get my freak on!!"

call me crazy but i hate peyton and that bastard brady.

let's just say i'm most excited about Tom Petty and whatever pizza it is we order that day. the game is inconsequential to me at this point.

Is it just me or did anyone else read that title and immeadiately think of Curt Hennig throwing himself touchdown passes?

I really wanted to post a funny comment, but after reading "Curt Henning throwing himself touchdown passes", I don't think anything I could write would be able to top that.

That said, I cannot for the life of me figure out how sports fans can be upset with the New England team model, especially Oiler fans. Over the course of two years, we have seen Oiler brass run a ship with tattered sails and a broken rudder. The Patriots on the other hand have always been a perennial power through intelligent drafting, shrewd player movements, and stellar game planning. How as a sports fan can you not like a team that in today's sports world repeatdly runs the most efficient ship around. It seems silly to me to despise a team that wins by being smarter then everyone else, on all fronts of the game.

Also, I have a major man crush on Brady (those cheeks I tell you), so maybe I am a bit biased.

I've got nothing against the Pats; in fact I rooted for them in '97 when they took on GB, but I absolutely can't stand Belichek.

At heart, I would love to be a journalist and thus I have zero respect for a guy that treats the media like Belichek does.

Plus, when you have Bos channels as your local station on your cable package, one viewing of a late night Boston sports program is enough to turn the proverbial horse from it's oats.

Plus, Bill Simmons and that fucking stupid "eff you" touchdown talk.

Doesn't anybody else think Bundchen is entirely too wholesome? Shouldn't all that celebrity get you just a little bit o' dirty? Where's the wickedness, the carnality, the base slutty attraction? In short, shouldn't Tom be going through pole dancers like I go through socks?

I knew you, of all people, would get the reference, Dennis.

I admire how he Pats run their ship in terms of management. But they've also been lucky. They got Brady in the 6th round, and weren't even playing him until Bledsoe got hurt. They got Welker and Moss for what, a 2nd, 4th and 7th round draft pick? That's some big bounces going their way. I also loathe Harrison, Bruschi and Belichick and the Pats "we're always the victim" and "we're the only team that plays the game the right way" attitude. Can't stand it, actually.

Hmm, AG, did you think I'd get it because I somehow let it slip that I used to be a wrestling geek until my early 20's? Or am I known for pop culture prowess:)?

What I don't like about the Pats is how, at least for this season, no one mentions how lucky they've been in avoiding the big injuries. I don't give much for Philip Rivers and I do give a lot for the Pats red zone offense but if LT's available last Sunday, that's a different game.

Overall, Belichek comes across as a total bore and despite Brady breaking away from the good guy facade by thrash talking that guy in the Steelers secondary, everyone acts like he's Wayne Gretzky.

As for his plowing habits, I love getting on young guys for not spending enough time in the gym and not being dedicated but you give me Brady's looks and/or any high profile athlete's visbility and I'd spend my time drinking and screwing an absolute swath across North America.

Also, because I've got a case of jungle fever, I would make significant waves throughout the buttoned down factions of the white community by bedding every black hottie I could. I would start out with Gabreille Union, hop on over to "Teddy" from "Hang Time's" wife in "Hustle and Flow" and keep going until I finaly decided to settle down with the girl of my dreams which happens to be one of the dancer's from Q-Tip's "Breath and Stop" video. And by settle down I mean I would convince her to allow me to enjoy the same arragnement as Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed which would enable me to keep plowing.

I'm rambling here:) but I'm upset because I'd make a far more interesting Tom Brady than Tom Brady:)

Only you could write that Dennis. Only you. Poetry, my friend. Poetry.

I think I just assumed you were a wrestling fan. I pretty much assume every dude on here was at some time or another. My own fascination only died a few years ago, and even then I got excited when I saw Vinny Mac on The Apprentice last night.

I do understand the disdain for Belichick, and Andy, I will give you that getting Brady in the 6th round is lucky (although once Belichick gotta around to watching practice film on him, he was instantly sold that he would be a talent, I think Peter King chronicled this years ago), but the pick ups of Welker and Ross have nothing to do with luck. Part of the Patriots formula for success has always relied on seeing talent in players where no one else did. Any team in the league could have gotten Moss for a 3rd round draft pick, or Welker for 2nd and 7th rounders, but that is just the thing, no one did. Belichick and Scott Pioli saw the skill and talent these players had (Teddy Bruschi earlier on in his Patriots day is another example of countless shrewd pickups by the patriots, he was pretty much abandonded by all teams in the NFL), and made the move for them. As I stated above, if this was a one time thing you could call it luck, but the Patriots have this player talent search, do I dare say this, i guess i do, down pat.

On another note, that Simmon's article on the "eff you" td was definetly not his best work. Came across slightly childish to say the least.

Dennis, do you remember the Inter0-Continenetal title run that Curt Hennig had back in the early nineties?

What a performer. One of the few that could create an illusion real enough that you believed you were watching a real competetion. I remember seeing him live at Northlands, facing Tito Santana, and getting saved by the bell to retain his title due to a draw. That due sold every single blow. Tito was goign to win the strap, and it was never in doubt.

One day there should be some type of introspective documentary focused solely on cocaine and pro rasslin. It is truly saddenign for me to come across the new that someone who entertained me so much when I was a child, ended up dead from an overdose in some dilapidated hotel room.

Slipper: I don't really remember Hennig's run per se; I had a weird in-and-out thing with wrestling. I was all about it until I was about 14 or 15 but then I fell out of it and didn't really get back into it until about '96. Then I basically saw all the PPV's up until about '00 and then all of a sudden I lost interest again.

But I was huge into it as a kid and still have a tonne of mags somewhere back home, ie PWI, Inside Wrestling, etc, and Hennig was my secord favourite wrestler trailing only Bret Hart.

When I saw AG's title, I thought of all the promo's that wound run on Superstarts on Sat afternoon and I thought Mr. Perfect had the best spots.

A last note on Simmons: He just kept pimping that "eff you" foolishness and it always chafes me. The best thing about his columns these days are the links.
