Look at you. You used to be so cocky. You were going to go out and conquer the world
Flames @ Hurricanes, RSN West, right now.
If the Flames win tonight, they will, however briefly, be tied for 5th in the WC (points, not Win%). And you know what? It's exciting.
Calgary 3 (c'mon, Lombardi!)
Carolina 2
Go Flames.

Comments:
I really don't understand why the NHL is so desperate to increase scoring. I'm already becoming numb.
I really hope that Huselius is breaking out, and not just streaking right now. The best part about his play is that he creates a lot of his own chances, capitalizing on mistakes by the other team.
Is it my imagination, or are we playing Yelle-Lombardi-Boyd? I'm not watching, just listening, but I keep hearing those names together.

That combo popped up.
The Tanguay-Conroy line looks awful so far.
Phaneuf with another bonehead play in his own end. He sure is fighting it right now.

He's really leaping around the puck, that's for sure. Must be nervous. :)
What a move by the kid too. In tight and he makes a back-hand deke and roofs it.
Time to demote Nolan and promote Boyd.
Wow. I said Kipper was back a little while ago. Clearly that was pre-mature.
The Canes 2nd goal was Cloutier-esque

While the goal was truly awful, lets not forget the ridiculous pass that Nolan made to create the 3 on 2. Dumb dumb dumb.
Oh boy, they are probably tired after last night's marathon, but that was some awful coverage on the Cullen goal.

No doubt. I have no use for Nolan at this point...
but no NHL goalie should be the letting that puck get by him.
Flames are getting some bounces, finally. The Hockey Gods were cruel earlier in the year and it's starting to even out looks like.
Kipper doesn't have to be a god, he just has to be better than the guy at the other end, Holmqvist, Denis, and Ward have really helped us out this roadie. Kipper's confidence seems low and he looks like he's trying to compensate with aggressiveness (positionally, not Billy Smith aggression, which wouldn't hurt him a bit by the way), and consequently getting beat by some of those cross-ice passes/one timers. Either the Flames have to hope the ol' Kipper returns and allows 34 to play deeper in the net or the Flames are really going to have to shut down those cross ice passes in the zone. PK still looks like a nightmare.
Bah. The entire game looked like we were a pack of marathoners swimming through molasses, but I'lltakeit, I'lltakeit.
My impression of both Oiler and Flames fans:
"Well, that was ugly, but two points is two points."
Seriously, I can't wait for the next Battle of Alberta. Guys colliding mid-ice, pucks dribbling through five-holes, Zach Stortini and Eric Godard hugging for fifteen minutes at centre ice. It should be a show.
Hey, ugly is good enough when you play SE division teams.
We're going to have to pick it up for St. Louis and Columbus. I had jokingly suggested on Metrognomes's blog that we should play Iginla 60 minutes per game, and rotate pairs of players through with him. I'm not sure that's such a bad idea anymore. He needs to get some consideration for MVP this year. He makes everyone better whenever he is out there.
