Yep, we're through the looking glass
The Calgary Flames appear to be the most explosive, dangerous offensive team in the Western Conference. They just dropped 5 goals (4 EV) on the Minnesota Wild, who had previously allowed 10 goals (4 EV) in 8 games. Jeez, Tanguay-Langkow-Iginla scored on three consecutive shifts in the 2nd period. They're on pace to threaten 300 goals.
I don't know where this ends up -- if it can translate to being a dominant team -- but it's awfully fun. Surely if a team whose 2nd-leading scorer potted 18 goals can win the conference, then this one can too. Can't it?

The one thing I felt Keenan would install, or at least insist on, was consistency. But this team is not only inconsistent game to game, its inconsistent DURING the game. Every team takes some shifts off but the Flames do it too often. As you say, great fun watching all the goals, but the penalty killing I despair of. Is it actually going to come down to using some cap space (when we have all our own RFAs and FAs to sign) to bring in someone who can kill penalties? Do we need some kind of coaching consultant to give us another set of eyes on what the problem is? Is it just as simple as kicking Kipper's ass?

Oh, I think this is probably the answer.
The goal differential isn't really there to suggest they're any better than their record, so I'm not sure why it's all sunshine and lollipops.
However, I don't think the Flames have a lot to worry about outside of a mysterious PK, which is certainly beating on that GD.

Does anyone know the Flames' ES GD..anyone..Bueller?

I'm pretty sure Jeff Friesen isn't too proud to take a call from Sutter tomorrow... no, I'm not serious, but I'm pretty stumped too. Hopefully a lot of it is luck.
The most overused phrase early in last season by Flames fans was "the previously undefeated Ducks" after Calgary handed them their first loss....good win by the Flames 9 games into the season and the parade route maps are being dusted off...again.

Yes. The even strength goal ratio for the Flames is 5th in the league: 1.60 GF/GA.
Edmonton is 0.75 GF/GA and Vancouver is 0.78 GF/GA.

From LOWETIDE's blog, you know, that place that overruns with Flames love:
Beating the Minnesota Wild after being down 1-0 is a mountain, beating them after being down 2-0 would probably bring the apocalypse. Being down 3-0 and then scoring 5 unanswered goals would be the kind of thing a strong Stanley contender might do.
apparantly it's overrun with Flames fans as well?
Didn't the exact same thing happen to the Flames last week? Oh wait, that was a 4-0 lead.
