Game On!
You wanted the hockey? You got the hockey. Ten reasons why the Oilers are so awesome (in the order in which they pop into my head):
1) Five Stanley Cups
2) Perogies at the game
3) Joey Moss
4) No dumb team mascot
5) Wayne Gretzky
6) Tough guys (Dave Semenko, Dave Brown, Dave Manson, Georges Laraque)
7) The Oilogosphere (duh)
8) Beginning the trend of playing Zombie Nation after goals (I have no proof of this, but you'll never convince me otherwise)
9) The last WHA team
10) The Boys on the Bus movie
1) Five Stanley Cups
2) Perogies at the game
3) Joey Moss

Comments:
11) Their ability to resign core members of their team to long term deals.
Good point. Thank God they didn't sign their 30 year old goalie to a six year deal, though. I'd be unable to get out of bed.

For $5.8M a year. And your goalie is 38.
And didn't you just sign a 31 year old Sheldon Souray to a five year, $27M deal?
You're barking up the wrong tree Grabia.

Sure, but I'm not bragging about that or the Roloson deal. I'm not sure I buy Sutter's argument that Kipper's best years are in front of him. Do you?
I, for one, am absolutely devastated that we've signed Kiprusoff to a front-loaded long-term deal.
I wish Sutter would've spent the money more intelligently, like on Roloson and Souray.
Also, did anyone else notice that of all of the "hockey related" items in Andy's list, all of them are in the distant past?
Maybe it's just me, but the reason I watch Flames games is for the hockey today, and not for what they did in the 80s or the fact that they have Perogies at the decrepit stadium.

Yes, because Calgary has won so many Cups since 1989.
Perogies is actually a pretty big deal, Dave. So, Yeah.
And did EIG pay you to describe Rexall as "decrepit"?
Even Hippos don't want to live in Calgary....http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20071030.whippo30/BNStory/National/?page=rss&id=RTGAM.20071030.whippo30
I'm probably crossing some uncrossable line here, but doesn't point 3 on your list contradict point 4?
"I'm probably crossing some uncrossable line here, but doesn't point 3 on your list contradict point 4?"
Good God, that made me laugh.
I guess it was only a matter of time until a wingnut posted something that in comparison makes fevered4Falmes look lucid and informed, but that's just ugly Peter. You "think" that crosses a line? Uh, no shit Sherlock. "Yikes"...by half. Or something.
Well, peter just doomed me to hell.
Because I absolutely could not help myself from laughing at that comment.
Just went out on a limb at A2Y that Tarnstrom could very well be the last pro athlete with the given name of Dick. I'm sure you've done the research. Is he actually the last pro Dick?
