Frank MacTavish

"I laugh at coach's interviews between periods because how many different and creative ways can you put pucks and bodies to the net? 'We want to get traffic to the net,' 'We want to get in front of the goaltender,'" recited MacTavish.

"You know it's tough to justify a pretty significant salary by just saying that over and over again, but in fact, it's the mantra. It should be more sophisticated than that, but it's really not."

- Edmonton Journal Oil Spills, this morning. This guy really is the best quote in the league.

Comments:

The quote in the following paragraph from that link is a good one too:

"There was no respect in the old days. That's why we had all the bench-clearing brawls," he said.

"That stuff was more commonplace but society changes and tolerance changes -- and rightly so. I just don't know if it's more dangerous now or back then."

I find it annoying when discussions focus on a myopic view of the 'good old days' rather than on substance, so this was nice to see.

In that case, you will *really* hate Charlie Simmer as a colour commentator.

Yeah yeah, MacT is very amusing, blah blah blah.

As of today, October 12, 2007, the (disappointing) Flames are ahead of the Oil in the Western Conference playoff picture (9th place vs 14th) and with a game in hand.

My pint says the Flames do not relinquish their slender one point lead between now and April. Any takers among the so called Oil Faithful?

No, I did not think so.

Nice of you to show up now, Peter. How convenient. I haven't seen you since your team was swept by the Wings.

Nice of you to show up now, Peter.

I thought that was the state of the art: When your team does well, you crow, when it doesn't you have a steaming hot cup of STFU. Conversly if the team you loathe is struggling you talk the trash, when it isn't you listen to crickets chirp.

...AND when you're an asshole you post as anonymous.

Never has an anonymous commenter made so much sense. Indeed, that describes just about all of us except for the emoticon/all-lowercase crowd.

Ha, so true. Especially Grabia.

LOL good one matt

Do we now use the term "Vaunted" when discussing the Canucks offense?

Oh yes, I do think we should.

"Vaunted Canucks Offense"

m'heh!

The Canucks have offence?

I'm waiting to see who plays the power play when a Sedin misses a game.

I was gonna say 'I vote for Rory' but it turns out he's not even in the Canucks organization anymore. This makes me sad.

Anyone else listen to Stauffer today.. half the show was on two rumors he heard over the weekend.
Shane Doan for Pitkanen, Moreau & Shremph
Marc Sarvard for Horcoff

Where does the "F" noise come from at the end of Schremp's name? I see it all over the place and it drives me insane.

Clearly, these people are extrapolating from the German "pfennig," for "penny." It is the only explanation.

I think Shawn Horcroft always calls him Schrempf. That's probably where it comes from.

I thought it was Norm Chomsky that first called him schrempf, or was it William Defoe?

I'd rather have a coach with the personality of a suitcase who knew how to win hockey games than an amusing dolt like MacT.

MacT knows how to win hockey games, his goaltenders unfortunately don't know how to stop pucks.
