And so it begins . . .

Keenan, following directly in the worn out footsteps of the three (at least) most recent Flames coaches, explains why his team lost:

"I thought the effort was a little bit inconsistent,"
said Keenan.

Is it too early in the season to start tuning out the coach?

Comments:

Sigh.

It was a wonderful night, wasn't it?

Such insight from a veteran coach!

mike keenan is a stanley cup winning coach, which is more than we can say about craig mactavish.

How many Stanley Cups has Mike Keenan won?

One.

How many Stanley Cups has Craig MacTavish won?

Four.

Who knows more about what it takes to win, again?

youll have to remind me how many of those cups came when mact was coaching the team, not a minor component on the player roster of teams stacked with superior talent.

oh yea that's right: ZERO

game set and match edmonton

I totally remember Keenan scoring all those goals, and that face off he took against the Canucks to win the Cup in 84.

Minor component. Give me a break.

if ANY of that sort of thing mattered, then the coyotes would be stanley cup contenders by now.

player success has no baring on how well someone can coach. just ask wayne gretzky

Ah, but coaching success depends on the team around you. Which is why Mike Keenan won a Stanley Cup then. He was surrounded by ex-Oilers. And it's why he won't win a Cup now. He's surrounded by current Flames.

so are u admitting that the only reason why craig mactavish is not a successful stanley cup winning coach is that he's been surrounded by poor teams (ie. the oilers)?

Uh, that's kinda how it works. Not poor teams, mind you. Just not great. Just like the Flames. But yeah, you sure got me.

Last time Keenan won a stanley cup..'94. Last time MacT won a stanley cup..'94. last time Keenan coached a team to the cup final..'94. Last time MacT coached a team to the final..'06.
Keenan's finals record 1-2, (both losses coming to Oilers). Mact's finals record 0-1. Last time Keenan coached a team into the playoffs '95..last time Mact coached a team into the playoffs..06.

worst trade in the history of hockey...Keenan..Bertuzzi for Luongo.
Runner up...Doug Gilmour with Jamie Macoun, Ric Nattress, Kent Manderville and Rick Wamsley for Gary Leeman, Alexander Godynyuk, Jeff Reese, Michel Petit and Craig Berube, January 2, 1992.
