Hard Hitting, Computationally Expensive, Statistical Analysis

Matt's Team: 0-2
Sacamano/Grabia's Team: 2-0

Comments:

I can't wait to provide the same updates once it, you know, starts to matter and real NHL rosters play.

The Oilers are basically already playing all of their talent, they decided to get the wins out of the way before the season starts.

Right, right. Preseason record is totally useless for predicting regular season record, right?

Except that, well, it might not be.

I was at the Calgary game last night. Jarmoe was cherry picking all night, and was totally stoned on both a complete breakaway, and in the shootout. There were some people unhappy with my and my cousin for cheering for the Panthers. And Flames fans in Saskatchewan are just as lame as Flames fans in Calgary :)

Oh come on. Cosh used one season as the basis for his analysis, so it was hardly a significant sample size. If his results held true for a decade or two, then he might have something. But since he only did for one season, he doesn't.

That, and the Flames dressed about 10 guys that aren't going to playing for the big club this year. So if you think the performance of our AHL club in the preseason will somehow be indicative of the the play of our NHL club in the regular season, then I don't know what to tell you.

splitting the team completely in two is playing all their talent? umm, yeah.

The Flames looked to be playing a half team to me

Not that I care, but McLea's right. The 2/3/4 lines for the Flames last night were:
Nilson-Stevenson-Germyn
Maki-Peters-Cunning
Van der Gulik-Kolanos-Godard

i.e. one major-leaguer

Oh come on mclea -- is that the best you've got?

I would have at least expected you to point out, with all of the statistical rigor of my original post, that the Anaheim Ducks lost their first preseason game last season before going on to win the cup.

Satistical trends are everywhere friends, you only need to know where to look and what to ignore.

Enjoy it while you can, Shelbyvillians.

Exhibition victories being the sweetest fruit available at the time.

LOL

well, i did the analysis on my blog and compiled the stats:

A 21 point list of Coilers catastrophes

Read it and tell me if i missed anything. Coilers are gonna lose 50 games this year.

"Read it and tell me if i missed anything"

....just your medication

You missed the spell check button.

However, I'm not one to nitpick on spelling, grammar, etc. since I make too many of those errors myself.

Besides, I really appreciate your implicit homage to e.e. cummings, who has long been one of my favourite poets.

I also appreciate the way you have expressed your solidarity with the Oilogosphere by referring to Calgary's hockey team as the Falmes -- in your inaugural post, no less.

Kudos!

who are the Coilers?

Besides meds, f4f also missed nap-time. The fevered suffer from hallucinations as it is. Add in lack of sleep, and well, you get fever4falmes.

Could I just say, as someone who lived a little north of Baltimore for eight years, that it wouldn't be entirely bad to live in a so-called stab-mad city? It might keep the murders by gunshot below 300 a year, which would be nice.

From fever4falmes’ blog:

anyway, i've been thinking a lot about the COILERS lately

Just lately? Based on your hanging about on Oil blogs and on the content of your own blog (ostensibly about the “endearing” record of the Falmes), I think it would be more accurate to say all you ever think about are the Oilers. Just so you know, the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.

Man, f4f really makes me want to start blogging again if only to make fun of him.

Not only that, but a 7-1 loss to the dreaded Kings. It still remains the Ducks' statistically worst loss since the lockout, preseason, regular season, and playoffs considered.

Key word being "statistically", because I can think of a few more humiliating losses.

Grabia, I don't know if this is territory we want to be treading with a Ducks fan...

God, I hate that cocksucker. I really hope he buys a Porsche

Make that 0-3 for Matt's team :-)

I'm not sure if that's the worst or the best thing I've heard all day. But it's one of those.

fever4falmes...the BOA is the best hockey blog site out there with INTELLIGENT posts and insights from both sides. The fact that you sour thier site with your inane comments and link to your pathetic site (which as a falmes site..has 3 blogs about the Oilers and only 2 about the falmes) is an embarrasement to flamers across the province. In fact, once the falmes fans hear about it, all 20 of them might try to hunt you down and sign you to coach the team after keenan is fired..lmao.
