Good Night, And Good Riddance

Comments:

How about David Moss pulling the Roberto Baggio with that open net in the first overtime?

C'mon...you can't find a pic of Vernon skating off the ice after one of their countless OT losses with him in net?

For all the Flames fans who talked so much shit this year: eat it. One more year before the market realities kick in in Calgary. I think Iggy will look very nice in a Coyotes sweater.

Beauty. Now I can retire in peace.

For all the Flamer talk about "well, at least we had the chance to get wiped out in the first round", I sure see a lot of happy Oiler fans and miserable Flames fans at the end of the day.

Thank GOD.

Ron MacLean's line at the end of the night: "Thanks for watching the Tour De Franzen". Gold.

I guess Flame fans can soothe themselves by watching a replay of the 1986 Steve Smith game (aka the consensus "Finest Hour in Flames History"....at least in the minds of most Flames fans I've met).

Sutter better extend Kiprusoff this summer. Damn he was good tonight. All series, actually. Those games in Detroit would have been far uglier if not for #34.

PS: Memo to Playfair - I think Peter's Drive-In is hiring someone to flip burgers. You might want to get your resume in.

Bottom line, this is what I was talking about. Oiler fans may not have taken anyone home from the bar this year, but they're still well within their rights to make fun of their buddy from down south who ended up with the fat girl.

BOOYAH!

C'mon...you can't find a pic of Vernon skating off the ice after one of their countless OT losses with him in net?

I like the choke image too much to skip over.

Periods of play: 19 plus.

Goals For: 10
Goals Against: 19
Shots For: Less than 130.
Shots Against: Over 250.
Shots Per Period: Less than 7.

Realizing the only reason your team isn't fucking terrible is because of the guy between the pipes? Priceless.

It's pretty bittersweet. I'm overjoyed that the Flames lost, but I'm going to miss the folks here... all the trashy, lively discussion... it really was a blast.

Thanks Andy for making the past year more fun than it should've been.

And now we sail on.

For all the Flamer talk about "well, at least we had the chance to get wiped out in the first round", I sure see a lot of happy Oiler fans and miserable Flames fans at the end of the day.

Well, what would you rather do? Get shut-down by every girl in the bar or end up going home with the fattest one of the bunch?

Technically, the guy who got laid did better, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let him get away without hearing about his sacrifices in the dignity department.

This wasn't a choke. They were just brutally outclassed.

Oiler fans may not have taken anyone home from the bar this year, but they're still well within their rights to make fun of their buddy from down south who ended up with the fat girl.

Plus, turns out she has a cock.

Little much, Andy! Much as I'm looking forward to a full-throated booing of Detroit, I don't think the Flames choked tonite. It was a good game. I just about choked when that Conroy double minor was called - if it were the Oil playing the Flames I would have welcomed the opportunity, but for Detroit to win like that would have been a bit above the odds. An ending, which I'm glad of, but a dignified one that Flames fans can be proud of, I think.

Man, that was satisfying.

Now for a Dallas win tomorrow night and I'll be happy for the rest of this postseason.

Plus, turns out she has a cock.

Line of the night.

Are you serious? Flames fans can be proud of Kipper, but not the damned team!

It's about time!

All of those weird Sutter trades and signings since 2004 have come back to bite him in the ass -- easily the slowest team in the playoffs and it cost them.

Now for a Dallas win tomorrow night and I'll be happy for the rest of this postseason.

You ain't gonna be happy, bud.

You ain't gonna be happy, bud.

Why? Because neither team will score and the game will last for infinity?

Good point mike. Now that Calgary is out, we can all focus our distaste on the Canucks fan sub-class of douchebag.

Because neither team will score...

You're mistaken. It's not the Oilers and Jackets playing.

Now that the Flames are out, I can admit that I hate the Canucks even more.

Naslund, Cooke, the Sedin twins, their near-total reliance on Luongo, and that dude who cheapshot slashed Brendan Morrow's ankle in half: the team can lick it.

Go D!

Go Dallas Go.

[goes and takes shower due to feelings of extreme filth]

You're mistaken. It's not the Oilers and Jackets playing.

Hyuck hyuck. The sooner the Dallas/Vancouver also-rans stop boring the crap out of the nation with their snoozefest triple OTS, the better.

I look forward to hearing from you after the Canucks choke as always.

Didn't you retire?

And anyway - this is a Flames - Oilers blog, and by my reckoning, my team still clobbered yours in Battle of Alberta '07.

And by clobbered, I mean comprehensively powned you inside out, upside down and sideways. Hope those draft picks work out for you.

Go Flames

if i'm Flames management, i think i'd be waiting by the dressing room door tonight with a collection plate - perhaps the likes of Huselius, Amonte and Friesen should throw a few bucks back in the team coffers?

i think we can officially but the notion of the Flames as a hard working team to rest - this year's version got WORKED ('cept for Kipper). Wings won nearly ALL the battles for the puck.

Tonight, we are all Detroit Red Wings.

One more year and then Cgy has to change gears unless Kipper or Iginla pulls a Brodeur and signs for less than they'd fetch elsewhere.

I picked Cgy to win this series and go far and I still think they'd have been better with RR but then again, they got killed in about eight of the nine periods that were played in Det and then the Wings took it to them tonight from what I can gather. So the Flames got what they paid for.

I said this to Matt after G3 but I needed to see Cgy owning Det before I thought they could make a real series. Fuck, back when dallas killed us we'd always have a G3 where the Oilers were just taking it to them and Cgy couldn't even muster that FFS and once I saw or didn't see that, I thought it was done.

There's been a lot made, and I agree with the guys, who said that cgy's play on the road was just bad luck and it was true that some shady things went against them. Considering that, they just weren't even in the games for the most part in the playoffs.

WTF happened? Is Det this good? I saw flashes of Bertuzzi caring again and ZBerg isn't even rust-free as of yet so I wonder how good they can be.

A few other things:

- it still shocks me to see someone type 'cock':D

- the Stars/Canucks series has set hockey back 50 years. It was so bad last night that even Jim Hughson couldn't get excited.

- I agree that Playfair's done. Sutter has one year left and I don't think he'll sleep knowing that he's not totally controlling the environs.

- Maybe it's just me but has everyone else forgotten that Van's lone playoff series win in what, the last 13 seasons, came against a Blues team that was so flu-addled that guys were throwing up on the bench PLUS Macinnis was hurt?

that dude who cheapshot slashed Brendan Morrow's ankle in half

Oh yeah, the viscous, nasty slash that Morrow recovered from in ten minutes and will be showing no ill-effects from in the game on Sunday? If you are going to hack Burrows, the least you could do is point out how offensively talentless he is!

I look forward to hearing from you after the Canucks choke as always.

I'll have to take an opportunistic leave from blog-commenting should that occur...

Me, I'm still a Canucks fan for the next 24 hours, despite Daryl Reaugh's best efforts to make me like the Stars.

The Flames have nothing to be proud of. They blew up psychologically in G5 and with any other goalie the score tonight would have been like 12-zip. Moments to take away: Conroy in the box for the double minor making the Harvey Keitel noise, and Hrudey calling Huselius the new Valeri Bure. Sweetness.

Mike W...I don't know if I said this before or not but I was actually cheering for Cgy during their series with Van in '04. The whole West Coast Express Van team sickened me. You couldn't take the puck from them and plus you had two hateful fucks in Crawford and Burke...plus Hughson cumming in his pants with his "Big Bert" and "Nazzy" calls.

I'll have to take an opportunistic leave from blog-commenting should that occur...

Heh heh. I'll give you points for honesty and having a sense of humour.

Did kelly really say that about AlienHead?

Is it on youtube?

I'll have to take an opportunistic leave from blog-commenting should that occur...

Heh heh. I'll give you points for honesty and having a sense of humour.

The Flames are out, now we only need to watch their stylistic bastard child the Canucks be eliminated for much the same reason - a roster that can't score before a good goaltender can only get you so far.

the Stars/Canucks series has set hockey back 50 years. It was so bad last night that even Jim Hughson couldn't get excited.

I was on the road last night (ironically returning home from Calgary) and didn't get to see the first period of the game. The Stars played great in the last two periods so even though I didn't like the result, I wasn't "bored".

Maybe it's just me but has everyone else forgotten that Van's lone playoff series win...

Yeah, no kidding. It's hard not to expect the let-down. This year was supposed to be different (defensive-minded coach with several offensively-gifted players), and it seemed to be at times. But now it looks like the new team is the same as the ol' team.

Having said that, Turco is due for a playoff melt-down. Sunday is as good a time as any for that to occur. And then you shall see trolling like you've never seen before!

And anyway - this is a Flames - Oilers blog, and by my reckoning, my team still clobbered yours in Battle of Alberta '07.

And by clobbered, I mean comprehensively powned you inside out, upside down and sideways. Hope those draft picks work out for you.

Take whatever small victories you can Peter, but it comes down to this:

The Oilers and the Flames won the exact same number of playoff series this spring. Zero.

I don't know what I'd rather have....the rights to Karl Alzner or James VanRiemsdyk, as opposed to an extra six games of watching my team get totally outclassed by the top seed in the conference.

Sweaty boy you can't possibly believe what you just said.

You know you would rather cheer for a team with a commitmnet to competing than for one without. Come on over, there is plenty of room on our bandwagon.

And yeah, we hear a lot of "the Flames have 2 years to make it happen ... big contracts ... blah blah blah."

I cheer for a team that will approach the cap when it comes to signing its star players. I have every confidence my star players will still be under contract this time in 2009. If I cheered for the other Alberta team, I don't feel that I could say that.

Flames take Battle of Alberta '07. It's a small victory in the grand scheme of things, but on this blog it's the biggest victory of all.

Go Flames.

Well, in all fairness to Flames fans, that top-6 pick also came with essentially the worst 20 games of hockey played by any team, ever, so I think they get some small victory here.

Having said that: FUCK YOU FLAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Wings couldn't have beat you any worse if you were wearing a leash and forgot your safe word. Let's see if Kipper can save par.

WOOOOOO!!!!!!

This wasn't a choke

Little much, Andy! Much as I'm looking forward to a full-throated booing of Detroit, I don't think the Flames choked tonite.

I would call the last two months of the Flames season and the playoffs a choke job, but if any of you bleeding-hearts want to call it otherwise, feel free to put pics up on your blog. This team kept all its stars (Iginla, Kipper, Regehr and Phaneuf), had career-years from Huselius and Langkow, added Tanguay, Conroy and Stuart, and barely made it into the playoffs. Then they went out one game faster than they did last year.

Flames take Battle of Alberta '07. It's a small victory in the grand scheme of things, but on this blog it's the biggest victory of all.

Give me a break. Take away Kipper for your whole season, Iginla for the last third, and then add in lengthy injuries to half your starting roster. Then see how you guys do. You added salary, got one year older, and all you did was get three more home games. After you barely made it in in the first place. Enjoy the soul-searching down there.

Best quote ever, Pleasures.

To all of the all of the Oilers fans who talked big this year: eat shit. All of those wierd KBlowe Pronger for Lupul moves really came back to bite you in the ass, easily the worst team in the league this year (lets hope it continues). And, btw even if the Oilers kept all of their players healthy and Smyth, they still wouldn't have made the playoffs. All of this shit talking after the fact has really solidifed my hate for the Oilers, I can't wait to see them move in three years when the EIG can't sustain a 50 million dollar payroll, Roloson will look great in a Las Vegas jersey. Eat a dick Oilers fans, oh wait...you already did, enjoy.

Eat a dick? Nah, we'll just wait for you to tell us how Detroit's tastes. I'm afraid we Oilfans don't have the slightest idea.

Whatever Nathan, you're team suffered a HUGE disappointment tonight...based on expectations of Oiler fans and Flames fans at the beginning of the year, I think Flames fans got the bigger disappointment.
The were contending for the 8th and final playoff spot until guys like Stoll Staios and Tjarnqvist got injured...which isn't bad considering the guys we lost from last year.

The Flames, on the other hand, barely squeaked into the playoffs then got their ass handed to them by the Wings...all this AFTER adding Stuart and Conroy, getting career years from Huselius and Langkow and getting scoring depth in Tanguay over the summer...did I mention WASTING all-world goaltending from Kipper during the playoffs?

Colossal disappointment for the Flames this year...luckily Jarmoe showed up and proved what a great captain he was...especially in Game 2 and 5!
Go Oilers!
Welcome to the Golf course Flames!

Jordan

Eat a dick? Nah, we'll just wait for you to tell us how Detroit's tastes. I'm afraid we Oilfans don't have the slightest idea.

You sure know how Calgary's tastes though, eh Cosh? Come to think of it, just about every team in the league, done made the Oilers their bitch this season. Don't worry, I'm sure things will get better next season.

based on expectations of Oiler fans and Flames fans at the beginning of the year, I think Flames fans got the bigger disappointment.

I stopped reading after that sentence. Ridiculous.

Oh no Nathan, what are the Flames going to do put Jamie McClennan on the ice for 18 seconds to hit someone before they run off and have a cry before road games are hard?

All of this shit talking after the fact has really solidifed my hate for the Oilers

It's funny. I didn't hate the Flames much at all until all you jerkwads shit-talked the Oilers all the way through the 2006 Stanley Cup run. And to think, I even passively supported your 2004 run.

NEVER. FUCKING. AGAIN.

Let me join the joyous chorous: eat shit, Flames fans. :D

It's getting ugly in here, sort of reminds me of last year's run. Good stuff.

It did get ugly in here joninabox, but if you put a bag over the head of the Lames fans you don't notice as much.

Well, I've always hated Oilers fans.

hey nathan, at least we can use the excuse of injuries and the loss of Ryan Smyth for our woes

what's the Flames excuse for being bitch-slapped to the tune of 259 shots against and out-scored 19-10 in 6 games?

luckily Sutter traded Ference and Kobasew for Stuart eh?

Jordan
ps shame you didn't read the rest f my post...I think I make some vaild points

Come to think of it, just about every team in the league, done made the Oilers their bitch this season.

"Done made"? Who talks like that? Go back to Texas.

The Oilers turned in one of the most disgraceful 1/4-season performances in the history of the NHL. They didn't just lose, they quit.

the Stars/Canucks series has set hockey back 50 years. It was so bad last night that even Jim Hughson couldn't get excited.

It's a bad sign when the hometown announcer is incredulous at every goal.

Eat a dick

Ironically, that's my guild's greeting/catchphrase. (Long story, don't ask.) So, yeah, try again.

At least our disgraceful performance lasted for 20 games. For the Flames I believe it was called 'every year between 1996 and 2003".

Honestly, you Oilers fans talk about Flames fans being classless. Are you even looking at the shit you're writing?

The Flames made the playoffs and the Oilers didn't. It's that simple. Everyone knows any team can get hot and go on a playoff tear. So it didn't happen this year, at least there was the chance that it could. The Flames are still a better team than the Oilers.

And also, Jim Playfair should be fired. Now, go Blue Jays!

Can't we get along.... right.. Let's see what the summer brings.. Go Oilers ...The Red Mile is now known as the "Pink 50".

Subversive

Lay off the Oilers fans for a minute, won't you? This is all they have until they slink back into their dreary lives, clutching their Wayne Gretzky dolls and wearing Oilers PJs c.1987 while writing yet another tear-stained plea to the HHoF committee in support of Glenn Andersen's induction.

They have yet to comprehend that all the Flames ouster means to them is that the 2006-06 Battle of Alberta officially comes to a close in Calgary's favour.

Thank God that's over, hey Huckface? Now you're sure to have money for the Stampede and all the oversized novelty cowboy hats, piss-warm plastic cups of Molsons and crab shampoo treatments it entails. Woo. Hoo.

I love these constructive discussions.

I dunno. Yeah, let the canucks lose. But I hate Dallas as much as Vancouver...so i'm indifferent.

ANAHEIM. No mention here whatsoever. What gives? When they lose, I'll rejoice. Fckin' hate that team with a renewed passion.

littlefury

Sure, it's no trashing phone booths and lighting fires on Whyte Ave, but we'll take it.

hy the Jim Playfair haterism? I think he should be coach of the year. In all seriousness.

Can someone come up with a good explanation for COW's huge home/road record? The last change at home has got to have a lot to do with it. What if this was a pretty bad team that Playfair coached the snot out of? You'd expect this kind of result: great home record, but a naked emperor on the road.

Just saying.

Any love going to come the Sens way from Alberta now?

I mentioned it elsewhere but I won't be totally able to rest until the Ducks are gone as well. Brian Hayward shouldn't be allowed near any hockey games and I'd avoided him for chunks of the reg season but then TSN decides to pick up the Ana cast for the last three games of their series with Minny and it all came back to me;) Burke's a smug prick who raped Lowe on the way to a divisional crown and of course then there's Pronger and there's the guy we should've gotten instead of Lupul, ie Penner or Getzlaf take your pick.

As for the Flames, WTF happened? Could Reghr's absence have meant that much? Cgy were road clowns all year but I doubt they played as bad as they did in Det outside of the first period in G5, otherwise it was like watching really bad senior hockey where one team's loaded up and the other team has like two good players plus an otherworldly goalie. A guy like Stuart played fine IMO and was worth Ference and Kobesuck but Warriner couldn't handle the tough sledding. Hamr/Dion looked fine at times and clueless at others. I didn't see enough from Iggy given all the on-ice respect I've built up for him over the years and I'd suspect he was hurt. Huselisis just about completely no-showed and there were huge pockets when you wondered with Tanguay was.

And for the fact that said his alberta team is likely to spend closer to the cap than ours, there's no question that he's right about that. On the other hand Dreger said on TSN last night that he's already heard whisperings about Iginla possibly being traded this summer.I can't tell you how good that made me feel;) Then I thought about it a little more and I'm not saying I'd agree with dealing him but Cgy has only won 5 playoff games since that run in '04 so maybe it's time to start over, or at least up front anyway because you have to keep Kipper.

Still a strange way for the season to end, IMO. I was one of the ones who cackled down the stretch knowing Cgy wouldn't get anywhere near HIC and I figured they'd be done if they started on the road. But then come the playoffs I somehow felt they'd right those wrongs and go on another run but that just didn't happen and as bad as the Flames were on the road before a couple of Wed's ago, it was nothing compared to how they finished away from the Dome.

How's Roger Millions feeling today, I wonder?:D

Way to stay classless, Oilers fans.

Way to stay classless, Oilers fans.

Anytime.

hey COILERS FANS: u were the ones who should SUCK IT. your team was a disgrace to the SPORT this year

how did calgary play with anything less than honor and hard-effort this year? yea, we may have been outskilled, but this team is pure heart. contrast that to the gutless, dickless, brainless hockey by the COIL during the last third of the season. eat me, e-town pansies.

EMPIRACAL FACT: 8th place is higher than TWELVE PLACE

grow up you morons

What a beautiful day. My heart bursts with joy after every Flames fan complaint. The denial is scrumptious.

Jesus, the almighty Kipper looked like shit on that GWG. An ugly goal, but one I can watch again and again and again.

Also, kudos to f4f and his ilk for showing us in Oilerville the meaning of the word "class."

Talk about delusional: look at this headline in the Herald today.

Kiprusoff's heroics worthy of Conn Smythe

At least he didn't try and defend it in the article. Course, that begs the question, why the hell did the editors title it that way?

Here's a great admission from a Flames fan:

Grodziski and two friends bought their season tickets in 2003, just before the Flames' made the post-season for the first time in seven years, eventually making it to the Stanley Cup final against Tampa Bay.

"When we bought these tickets, nobody was going to the games," said Kevin Pearson, 26. "You could go to the concession and not even have to wait in line.

This story about Noodles is my favorite, though. Says a season ticket-holder:

"The only problem is, they're not used to it, so they don't do it well."

Was he talking about taking cheap shots, or winning playoff games?

i'll take kipper on an off night over the average ROLOSON perfermance any day of the week

at least we arnt the ones wallowing in the memories of stanley cup wins that will NEVER COME AGAIN

anyone who says that the flames have anything less than a bright future after the draft, ufa signings, and killer trades by sutter this summer is ignorant of OBJECTIVE REALITY

go FLAMES

"EMPIRACAL FACT:"

Hahahaha

Did this thread get linked to Calgary Puck or something?

It's nice to know Grabia is now reading the Herald considering the abundant hockey talk in the Journal these past few weeks.

Nathan "Come to think of it, just about every team in the league, done made the Oilers their bitch this season."

Except the Dead Things, whom we beat in the season series 3-1! Woo hoo for small victories!

Well at least Flames fans can rest easy in the knowledge that the Flames gave it their all and still came up empty handed...wait nm.

-ChrissyT

Actually the Flames 'future' is that the salary cap world will make it extremely difficult for them to pay both Iginla and Kippersoff at the end of next season while signing Phaneuf to a significant raise and resigning Regher. Bright future? More like problematic, but don't worry I'm sure Sutter being the sharpest knife in the drawer rather than a fellow who just happened to know that the Sharks had a good goalie kicking around will be all over that with his accounting accumen.

Meanwhile look forward to drafting some plugger from the WHL whose upside is a 4th line energy player like the Lames do every year.

Are we actually arguing about which team sucked less this season? Can't we all just mutually agree to bask in each other's shortcomings?

"EMPIRACAL FACT: 8th place is higher than TWELVE PLACE

grow up you morons"

... says the guy who writes like a retarded 12-year-old.

at least we arnt the ones wallowing in the memories of stanley cup wins that will NEVER COME AGAIN

I'm gonna let this one just slide by.

anyone who says that the flames have anything less than a bright future after the draft, ufa signings, and killer trades by sutter this summer is ignorant of OBJECTIVE REALITY

And there's nothing worse than bing ignorant of an objective reality that has yet to occur.

nice u cant refute my points so you hurl add homenims at me.

stay classy coilers fans.

enjoy the draft. never has a 6th pick been so mediocre

and iginla is going to take a hometown discount (yea thats right i said hometown, hes officially disowned edmonton--smart cookie that jarome) flames will be fine

Ah yes, attendance. I thought it was interesting that Philly managed a better attendance rate than the Oil this season. Of course, Philly fans see their team through thick and thin year in and year out. I guess Oilers fans couldn't stomach the soul crushing end to their season despite having gone to the finals last year. Like I said, in three years I will be happy to see them move.

Oh Andy, I'm sure you'll stay retired until you see a Flames car flag, sending you into a fit of rage. Those posts were always so worthwhile. Kind of like rehashing articles from the Herald.

98.5% attendance, 13th in the league. 16,839 fans, 19th in the league despite having what I believe is second-smallest building in the NHL. There are so many real reasons to hate the Oilers, why do you have to make some up?

Homenims?
Homonyms?
Homos?
Hominoids?

Someone's throwing GIBBONS at you?

There are so many real reasons to hate the Oilers, why do you have to make some up?

Mostly just because it's Andy's misconception that nobody went to Flames games before 2004. Their attendance numbers were slightly lower (actually higher in 2000-2001)than Oilers attendance up to that point, but quite comparable. And let's not forget all of those sad-sack evening news stories in the 90s when shots of empty seats in the Coliseum were broadcast round the province (was I supposed to be sad that the mighty had fallen?). I know the Oilers attendance isn't that bad and that the Flames didn't start selling out the Dome until after 2004, but it's a far cry from what young Andrew is suggesting. Anyway, tit for tat when it comes to attempts at fan crushing, I say.

Hey man, far be it from me to try and dispute any of your "empiracal facts," fever. You're clearly out of my league.

Anyhow, WHOO! Both our teams are horribly disapppointing! YEAHHHHHHHH

I finally managed to get a look at Millions as I saw him interviewing Phaneuf and it was just a special time for me. Roger looked positively harried, slouching with his shirt all open at the neck just like a guy who lost his mortage payment at the track.

That just made my fucking day.

Hehehe. Ain't it fun bursting Lamers bubbles.

The Lames playoff futility doesn't end there, as that's the only year Calgary won a playoff series since their Cup win way back in '89. Zero series wins from 90 thru 2003. Broke the goose egg in 2004. So rare was the occasion that Lames fans are still riding that run to the Finals to feed their delusions. More recent evidence flatly ignored:
1.Lames finish 05/06 as division winner, and proceed to meekly fall over against the Ducks at home. Out in seven. Despite the Oil having already advanced. A new BoA was on tap...but the Lames couldn't hold serve. Lamers categorize 2006 as a blip. 2004 somehow avoided that definition.
2. Lames 'bolstered' the lineup via trade and FA signing, only to squeak into the playoffs this season (despite career years from a number of players, as has already been mentioned).
3. Lames proceed to be thoroughly trounced by a Detroit Red Wings team known for it's playoff dominance. Oh wait a second...
4. Lamers continue to blindly maintain the Lames will be far superior to the Oil, not only next year, but for seasons to come. Never mind that Iginla, Kipper, Regher, Phaneuf, Langkow, Huselius, Conroy, Hamrlik, and Stuart are all unsigned beyond this next season (or even this summer in the case of Hamrlik and Stuart).
5. Lamers postulate that trades and FA signings will only strengthen the team...as demonstrated
"empirically" this season (wilting in 6 rather than 7)

The level of denial rampant among Lames fans in this thread borders on sheer lunacy. If it makes the Lamers feel better to throw crap around at Oil fans, go ahead. Just realize you're not exactly throwing the crap down from a higher elevation. You're hip deep wallowing in it, just like the Oil. Difference is, the Lames have only one year to escape. Beyond that, the f-Lames are f-stuck. Regardless. One more year, Lamers. One more year. The clock is ticking.

Speaking of next year, the replacement for "All Business" may as well be "If you've only got the one basket, may as well put all the eggs in."

Guys, guys, let's not lose sight of what's really important here - the Oilers have five Stanely Cups and the Flames have only one.

If it makes the Lamers feel better to throw crap around at Oil fans, go ahead.

Ummm...the whole point of this post was to make fun of Flames fans. Every comment by an Oilers fan has been to take a pot shot at Flames fans, or the Flames (I'm assuming to make themselves feel better.) I don't understand where you are getting these "delusions" from. The Flames were better than the Oilers this year, no question. Whether the Flames were as good as their fans made them out to be or whether success or failure will meet them on down the line is something that is a bit harder to determine. Your defensiveness belies an insecurity Te Oilers might be the better franchise, but don't delude yourself into thinking that they are the better team now, or that the Flames have no hope for the future. Sure, they may not be able to sustain their current roster, but it's not like they don't have anything to work with. The Oilers and Flames have shared equal futility since the 90s. You might argue that the Oilers had more playoff appearances than the Flames and were therefore the better team, but by that logic Calgary was better than the Oilers this year and your "delusion" argument is moot.

I understand that there are people who post comments anonymously and capitalize misspelled expletives but if you are reacting to those people then you are far too easy to goad.

Te [sic] Oilers might be the better franchise, but don't delude yourself into thinking that they are the better team now, or that the Flames have no hope for the future.

Might?

Oh I see, you pointed my spelling error, as if that makes my point less relevant, like I don't know how to spell "the".
You are quite the professor. Anyway, I guess I should have said "were the better franchise". Does that suit you better?

You should be honoured Nate. Not only did I respond to your point, but pointing out the error in the sentence I chose to comment on wasn't a task of such magnitude that it was pointless to even attempt. That's pretty good for a Flames fan.

BoA commenting is the second greatest waste of time and effort, only Facebook beats it in that category. Sigh...I've wasted my life.

I understand that there are people who post comments anonymously and capitalize misspelled expletives...

"...and with a little extra effort, it might occur to me that for some reason they all cheer for my team." EMPIRACAL FACT.

True, Cosh, true. But I did manage to find some anon gems directed at the Flames and/or their supporters or their president:

Enjoy watching the Flames burn out!

F*** U Calgary, Flames fans and, just for my own special enjoyment, Ken "Fat Bastard" King.

OK so, no emparacol factsies, but still pretty good.

And this one which was just strange:

thanks lowetide,
youve always been the reasonable voice of the oilogosphere

nice u cant refute my points so you hurl add homenims at me.

Add homenims??

Does that mean they, homenims [snicker], are, like the eggs in the basket, increasing in number?

"EMPIRACAL FACT" deserves its own entry in the BoA glossary, but I have no idea what the hell it means.

For additional fun, let's try stacking them!

"Man, Jarmoe sure was a clown in Game Five, eh? And that's an EMPIRACAL FACT!" (spits)

okay SO WHAT i make spelling mistakes

Mostly just because it's Andy's misconception that nobody went to Flames games before 2004.

You should take up your troubles with the season-ticket holder from Calgary that the Herald quoted. Seems to me he's the one who saw nobody at the games. And the articles are from today, so I'm intrigued by your use of the word "rehashing."

The Flames were better than the Oilers this year, no question.

Who is denying that? The points tell that story, just like five Cups is always more the one. The difference is, we lost Chris Pronger and Ryan Smyth to trades. We lost Ales Hemsky, Jarret Stoll, Ethan Moreau, Steve Staios, Daniel Tjarnqvist, Marty Reasoner, and a bunch of others to major injuries. Calgary kept Iginla, Kipper, Regehr and Phaneuf. You got career-years from Huselius and Langkow. You added Alex Tanguay, Craig Conroy and Brad Stuart. The sum total of all that? We missed the playoffs. Shocker. You made the playoffs on the second last day of the season. And you went out with a wimper, getting manhandled in six games, one less than it took you to get knocked out last year. If you want to brag about that, go ahead. But it seems to me that we are the ones being clear-headed here. At least we can admit that our team sucked.

I love these constructive discussions.

I believe you were the one who came on here and told everyone to "eat a dick." So, was that an actual constructive suggestion, or did you spell something wrong? Maybe you meant "duck"?

I love the discourse on this thread.

(As long as no add homenims fall on my head.)

I thought it was interesting that Philly managed a better attendance rate than the Oil this season.

According to ESPN, Philly was at 98.9% capacity, and the Oilers were at 98.5%. You really burned us on that one.

Hahaha, looks like another EMPIRACAL FACT in the strike column against the Oilers.

The Oilers sold out all 41 games this season, ESPN's stat sheet is incorrect as it uses our attendance figures from before our recent renovations which added more lux boxes (~17000). The whole thing goes to show how ridiculous attendance figures are anyway, when a team can just cap the max figure then sell tickets "above" the max.

All I know, is that the Flames suck.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is an EMPIRACAL FACT.

Beauty thread. Congrats to the Flames, and best of luck to 11 of their forwards as they enter retirement this summer. The good thing is they can follow their coach to the unemployment office.

Go Sens. Don't care about anyone else.

Your words say one thing, your many, many posts say something else.

but the flames are

And that, folks is an EM....

...and scene.

In other news Turco imploded right on schedule tonight. Poor guy.

nice u cant refute my points so you hurl add homenims at me.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I thought it was interesting that Philly managed a better attendance rate than the Oil this season.

Not when people forget to update the capacity of Rexall: they don't sell more than 16,839 tickets. Period. They've had that many people at 81/82 regular season games since the lockout, so I somehow suspect it's not a coincidence.

EMPIRACAL FACT: CANUCKS RULE!!!!

Bwahahahahahah!!!!!!!

Oh, and I'm completely hammered....

... so allow me to troll incessantly...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! OH BABY!!!!!

CANUCKS RULE OVER ALL ALBERTA... OH, AND TEXAS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the fuck is with all the canuck bashing and non-dallas hating? Dallas/Edmonton was a better rivalry for the past decade then flames/oilers. Fuck ive hated dallas for so many years, no one else feels this same sentiment?

It gives me such great satisfaction to see the once mighty dallas stars fall so hard. Granted they dont have as many bitches on their team like hatcher but i still hate them.

As for the flames? Well, they do it to themselves. Its just to easy to hate them.

-Doug

According to ESPN, Philly was at 98.9% capacity, and the Oilers were at 98.5%. You really burned us on that one.

Andy, it should be pointed out that the Oilers attendance was actually 100%. ESPN is still using the Oilers old seating capacity of 17 099 to calculate attendance, not the new capacity of 16 839. So, when one divides 16 839 into 17 099, you get 98.5%. So these trolls are attempting to make fun of the fact that the Oilers had 100% attendance.

you can shuffle numbers but facts is facts: if there was really a demand 4 more seats at rexall theyd make them

go flames

I can't tell if the Flames' loss has made their fans louder or stupider.

When it's a choice between the hollow shell of a team we haven't played in years and a bunch of johnny-come-lately jagoffs who's success is almost wholly dependent on the most spectacular heist since D.B. Cooper and who's fan base consists of braying jackasses who make Flames fans look like paragons of consistency, well...what was the question again?

I don't like Van fans, ie back in the day when OF was THE place to be for Oilers fans, there were a couple of real jewels from this Canucks site that were always there, but I can understand them getting excited about this year because they've never won anything. If not for the Leaves they'd be the most pathetic of all the Can franchises.

I suspect we'll only have to tolerate them for 5 more games this second season though. The bad news is that the Ducks will be around for at least two more rounds.

I can't tell if the Flames' loss has made their fans louder or stupider.

stupid? take econ 100 and learn about the laws of demand and supply

if the demand was there then the coilers management would boost supply

simply economic theory--but i guess bussiness and economics was never edmontons strong suit

I guess you got me there. It certainly explains why we haven't heard anything about building a new, higher capacity arena, right?

I always felt it was more important to first learn how to read and write. But, hey, maybe your method works for you.

Okay this dude has to be a parody.

If anyone's still reading, I second the motion for "EMPIRACLE FACT" to be added to the BoA glossary.

I'm growing more and more convinced that Matt is the only calgarian out there who knows what grammar is.

I'll give you credit for managing to write the word "coilers" so many times without mispelling it. Which is even more impressive an accomplishment when one considers that you're most certainly convulsing with self-congratulatory giggles everytime you do. Kudos, Beavis.

I agree tepid4Lames, Calgary *was* well off. ;-) That's some TV ya go there too. 40 footer. Wow. Takes an impressive barn door to accommodate a flat screen that big. That's like, so like, totally empiracal duuude. Totally.

Anyway, have fun watching Lost on your technical marvel...although my money is on the remote getting lost...they're always falling between the bales. Beavis indeed.

Because you can just slap 2,500 extra seats in an arena, just like that. Because you want to. That $400M arena plan? Pure whimsy.

whatever. in calgary were well off.

So well off that we don't even need to bother with punctuation and spelling. We can hire servants to do that for us. Except for those of us who are living on student budgets and learning that the price of prosperity is a rent cheque that bends you over and fucks you up the ass each month. Fucktard.

Grabia, how's retirement treating you?

3 articles in two days? Man are you ever taking it easy...

I know your first movie in the fantasy pool doesn't come out for another week or so, but wow...

Where do you find the time? ; )
