Flames Game Morning

Wings-Flames G2 goes at 11AM MT on the Corpse and the Peacock. Here's what the little fellas on my shoulders are telling me.

Right: if the Flames win today, they're in an awesome position. Kipper does not look sore or tired, which is great, as that was certainly one of the risks of starting him 74 times this season. Clearly the Flames can play a lot better than they did in G1, especially at the attacking end. And it sounds like Regehr will draw in; even at 75%, that's a good thing... it allows the rest of the D to go back into roles they're more familiar with (and for which they are capable).

Left: if the Flames get outplayed by even half of Thursday's margin, they're going to lose again, and it doesn't look promising for them to suddenly turn it around back in Calgary. (In case you didn't notice, they weren't near as dominant at the Dome in the final 6 weeks as in the rest of the season: their last 8 at home they had 1 reg Win, 3 reg losses, and 4 ties thru 60). It all depends, I suppose, on how today's game goes, but at this moment, it feels to me like if they get punked again this morning, then the sweep is on.

Prediction: a little better defensively today, with one fewer unlucky bounce. A lot better offensively. Hasek has no chance on Iginla's game-winner in a 4-3 Calgary win. Go Flames.

Comments:

Awesome start Calgary!

Shoot me in the face.

oh for fuck's sake -- a second 5-3 advantage in the first ten minutes. Didn't the Flames get the wake up call Detroit delivered on Thursday?

This blows, and not in a good way.

Go Flames.

Just bend over and keep taking it where you deserve it.

Wow. The Flames can sure talk a good game (ie. play tough DISCIPLINED hockey...)

Too bad they can't follow through.

And wtf was Tanguay doing with the puck? He didn't see Datsyuk? Talk about a brain fart.

And now the boys seem to be afraid to hit, as they'd probably get YET ANOTHER penalty...

I almost miss McGeough...

And is anyone else having trouble with CBC's HD feed?

Man, I hope Conroy sits the rest of the game. If I didn't know better, I'd say he's trying to be the worst player on the ice.

No where to go but up, right?

RIGHT???????

Go Flames.

Absolute garbage goals.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2007 Calgary Flames!!!!

The garbage ones count the same as the pretty ones ... Go Flames!!

Ha, I guess we'll take what we can get.

I guess you will.

30-11 in shots halfway through the 2nd? I realize DET had a lot of PP time, but they must've been bombing away the whole time too.

I think Calgary should trade Kiprusoff.

Does Phaneuf ever make a hit without leading with his elbow or leaving his feet?

Flames played well today, they just didn't get the breaks.

Tee hee.

That was Edmonton Oilers circa 2007 bad.

Wouldn't you rather a high pick in the draft over getting swept this embarrassingly in the first round?

Wow, what complete debacle.

What is Sutter thinking while watching this shitshow??

Does Phaneuf ever make a hit without some Oiler fan complaining about it?

Probably not. We tend to be unimpressed with guys who hit by either jumping or leaving their feet.

Ahh, two goals in two games, that's the Flames we all remember so well.

You aren't going to win against Hasek with only 15 shots.

Slipper said: "That was Edmonton Oilers circa 2007 bad."

Not really. Even when the Oilers were getting their asses handed to them game after game, they could at least muster 20+ SOG.

And the reffing wasn't bad, the Flames were just playing dumb. They had 5 penalties in the 1st, and 3 in the 3rd. In the 1st period they managed 8 shots. They couldn't even manage 8 combined in the last 2. The Wings had 2 penalties in each period.

The Wings are just dominating at ES.

But you repeat yourself, m'heh!

51 shots against Kipper? Yergh.

And who is this Hale kid who seems to enjoy sitting in the box so much?

Probably not. We tend to be unimpressed with guys who hit by either jumping or leaving their feet.

This explanation would be sensible if:

a.) you actually complained when any other player did it, and
b.) Phaneuf actually jumped to make the hit in this instance.

Seeing as neither of these things is true, it just sounds like sour grapes to me.

Music to my ears.

It's good that Kipper and Phaneuf will be able to get back to smoking in the backroom at Cowboys soon. I hear the girls miss them.

As an aside: something HAS TO be wrong with Iginla.

Shouldn't this post be titled, "Flames Game Mourning"?

I'm glad that you can keep a happy attitude while your team is absolutely collapsing in the playoffs. Sour grapes, schadenfreude, whatever. It's a hell of a lot of fun to watch. :)

Apparently we've both been reduced to enjoying the pains of our rivals.

Very, painfully true.
