And the drama continues...
WC Updates:
- Detroit has clinched home-ice in the first round; they can only be caught by Anaheim or Nashville for 1st. Oh, and their final two games are a home & home vs. the Blackhawks.
- Calgary can no longer catch anyone except Minnesota; the Wild need one win to clinch at least 7th (w/ 2 OTLs and a tie at 102pts, the tiebreaker would go to Calgary).
- Vancouver needs 2pts to clinch the NW or any loss by Minnesota. While the tiebreaker at 103pts goes to the Canucks, the tiebreaker at 104pts goes to the Wild.
- A Ducks win tonight would all but wrap up the Pacific; it would ensure that they finish ahead of San Jose, and bring their magic number over Dallas down to one.
- The Oilers can no longer finish last in the conference. If they are caught by Phoenix at 69 points, then the Kings can do no better than 68. (Accordingly, the best odds they can have in the lottery is 3rd, as the Flyers and either the Kings or Coyotes are guaranteed to finish in a worse position.)

That magic number would be 1/2, actually, unless I misunderstand the concept. The Ducks with a win tonight would have the Stars' maximum point total; all that would be needed would be an OT appearance after that.
Sorry for the confusion. NHL-wise, it makes a bit more sense to refer to points, rather than Wins & Losses, with the magic number. Like Mr. Zorak.
Like you say though, if the Ducks win tonight, then any single point earned by them in their last 2, or any single point not earned by Dallas, would give the Ducks the Pacific.
Totally off topic, but since Grabia is pretty much ignoring the Oil at this point (who isn't?), I had to stop in to say...
Carolina missed the playoffs! Haha! Take that, Joe Camel! ;)
Schremp got called up? Tells you how little I've been paying attention. I did toast to those bastards from Carolina going out last night, though. Ward should change his number from 30 to 890. Overrated motherfucker.

I'm surprised one of the 'canes bloggers who infected the Oilogosphere last SCF like a plague of boils hasn't descended on you for this comment. Those ho remain are a touchy bunch these days. (I wonder whatver happened to my old buddy DrFrankLives? Surged to Baghdad?)
drowning my sorrows in tears of joy that the Oil are also watching on TV.
I'm flattered you remembered me.
