Well,
...that should just about do it, shouldn't it? Calgary wins in a shootout, Colorado loses 3-0 (a 5-on-3 goal and two empty-netters). The Flames magic number is now 6, which is a pretty small one with six games left.
Dallas killed the Coyotes tonight; Vancouver won; Minnesota got a point; and the Sharks are leading L.A. In other words, tomorrow morning the 7th place team will probably have 98 points. Flames have 92, and have virtually no chance of moving up (as such, their 1st-round opponent will be whichever of Nashville, Detroit, or Anaheim heads into the playoffs on the biggest roll).
Should be interesting. If there's one thing I have in common with nearly every Oiler fan, it's that I'm ready for the regular season to be over. Go Flames.

A-hem... Vancouver is one point behind the Ducks. You should include them as potential #1 :)
We shall defeat you when five on three. And when that doesn't work, with the most exciting play in hockey. Twice. Is there anything this team cannot do?
Never know. I think the race for 8th still has the potential to be interesting. If the Flames lose the next 2 (@ Minny, @ Nucks) and the Avs win the next 2 (@ Yotes, vs. Wild) they'll be 3 points back with 4 games remaining.
It could still come down to the final game of the regular season.

Sure, anything's possible. But, the Flames only have to win 3 of their last six to get in (or get some combination of three wins and Colorado losses). That seems almost certain.
Especially with a hame game against the Oilers the night before that final regular season game. It would almost be worth it to let Colorado creep a bit closer if we could clinch our playoff spot in that game.

Good sir, I think you forget what the "C" in Calgary stands for.
I can only imagine the hilarity that would ensue if Calgary sputtered here, and with their season on the line put up a stinker against an Edmonton squad.
Maybe the sound of sucking would echo through the Saddledome once again...
It would be divine retribution for Calgary punting the Oilers from the play-offs on '02, for the Oilers to punt the Flames in '07, but it ain't gonna happen. The Flames are going to close the deal on this season way before then.
Luckily, Flames fans don't have to "imagine the hilarity" when it comes to the inept hijinks of their *ahem* rivals to the North - it's on open display nightly.

In terms of probability, most likely. If the Avs were to catch the Flames now, it would be a collapse for the ages. I'd love to see it, but I'm not counting on it.
Oh well, watching Calgary bow out in five games to the Preds in the first round will be pretty entertaining in its own right.

Top five or bust baby! Short term pain for long term gain!
Is there anything this team cannot do?
Well, it has a long history of not winning Stanley Cups, so I guess the answer is "yes."
Fore!
Yes, you are fore Cups short of the Oilers, and I somehow doubt that's changing this spring.
Sorry Peter, couldn't resist.
andy, i think temujin was being sarcastic...
vancouver fans are well-aware of our team's incompetence, and sorta come to expect it, especially whenever there are high expectations (which is why this year was such a pleasant surprise, since, technically, they were rebuilding).

I left that one open, didn't I? Well put, you rogue.
If Nsh takes 1st in the Conf then I imagine the lonely airhorn will echo throughout the Saddledome again late in the third period of G6..maybe around say Apr 21st?
And if you wanna talk about something funny, let's talk about how many Flames playoff series wins there were between '90 and '03 or even say playoff APPEARENCES for that matter.
