Northwest Division Game Day

The Canucks take on Anaheim at the Pond tonight, and if Cowan & Co. can pull off a win, it'll be time to face reality and accept that Vancouver is going to be the NW champ. Catching them wouldn't be impossible, but a softer sked and a 3-game lead (with only 1 H2H left) leans strongly in their favour.

Which means... the 14 games left on the Flames' schedule amount mostly to high-intensity playoff preparation. The goal -- from where I sit -- would be to avoid 8th; a first round date with the Ducks or Canucks looks more favourable to me than a matchup against the Central champs. (Also, if there's upsets, might as well have the potential for home-ice ad in later rounds).

7th probably means starting the playoffs in Anaheim, 6th in Vancouver. 5th looks ugly at first blush, but has its upside:
Minnesota has a chance to nail the Nordiques' coffin shut this afternoon, in St. Paul. That'd suit me fine, though any result (in regulation) has positives for the Flames.

Also, apparently the Oilers are bound by league rule to actually play their remaining games, so Shawn Horcoff, Jason Smith, and 12-16 guys who ought to be in the minors will be suiting up in San Jose tonight against the Sharks. Centre Ice viewers (assuming they get the home feed) will be treated to the verbal stylings of rookie colour commentator Marty McSorley; RSN viewers are stuck with Oilers' season-ticket salesmen Morely Scott and Gene Principe (I assume Ferraro is busy at NBC today).

[cringe] Go Ducks. [off to take a shower]

Man, nice of you to wait until the Oil were totally out of contention before starting with the cheap shots.

Cheap shots? How about "slight exaggeration".

Legit NHLers: Horcoff, Smith, Pisani, Sykora

Borderline (up-and-coming?): Pouliot, Smid, Thoresen

AHLers: Greene, Syvret, Young, Petersen, Jacques, Brodziak, Stortini, Winchester, Nilsson.

Other: Lupul, Torres

Have to agree with Matt, Sac. This team is in shambles. I'd honestly be surprised if they won another game.

Oh, how I have longed to see those words written at BoA. A year and a half of trolling has finally yielded positive results!

Since you said that though, it probably means the Canucks are going to go for a crapper and finish 8th. Naturally.

Here's hoping.

Here's what I need from this game:

- an oilers loss so we get a really good puck and Lowe can shut his baldheaded mouth about never being able to move up in the draft

- no points for Joe T because the guy who's besting me in my main pool, ie it's for 500 bucks, is up by 11 and has Thornton

- points for 15 and 71 because I have those guys in said pool.

- morley scott to either shut the fuck up OR get called into actual game action and get smoked and then there'd be one less propogandaist on the scene.

Thoughts early on: 78 moves to the RW along with 14-10 on the first line. 23 is thusly pivoting 22-34. Lupul actually cared enough to draw a penalty in the first frame. 5-71-14-78-15 was the PP unit and the Sharks PK stayed super tight on the d, no reason why, and this allowed a constant 3 on 2 down low but for some reason 15 was given the job of running it off the half-wall and couldn't do a thing with it.

1-0 SJ but no Joe T on on the sheet;) 15 takes a minus and in other news the sun came up again today.

Matt's been taking shots at the Oilers all year but hey it's all part of the page:) That being said it seems like he's getting extra saucy here lately.

No HIA for the Flames means we'll have our revenge in six games or less.

Then year one of the two year window will have been wasted and things will feel a whole lot better:D

You are a hero for watching, Dennis. I actually chose to watch "Two Weeks Notice" over the game. That tells you all you need to know about my mental state as it comes to this team.

Well that was a Lame fan giving props to the Japanese Sushi bunch. Better sister in a whorehouse than one being a nuck fan. After the Nucks loose a game please not everyone at the same time jump off the bandwagon, it upsets the street people.

The epic playoff potential of said Nucks. 2 rounds. Hate to say it if the Lames get hot they may get further, doubt it with the shitty road record they have going on.
I am on board for the Oil to shit the bed the rest of the way. Draft picks are gold. I have rethought it the Mallards need to win the cup so we get the 2008 1st rounder. Then he who cannot be named can go on to star in Gay porn with Le GG oh yeah SD.

WHAT? WE LOST? HOW CAN THAT BE!?

Oh well, I'll give the Oilers all my money, no matter what. How could you doubt this team? Maybe K-Lowe could trade for my son. He's eligible in 9 years. Kev...call me.
