Oilers/Blue Jackets: Open Thread

I was going to live blog this one, but just realized it is on PPV. So this is what we get instead. GOILERS!!!

Comments:

Well Andy, you should have bought the PPV. It's a 1-0 game on a nice goal by Horcoff.

And now a powerplay goal by Smitty I think.

Smyth is playing to be traded.

Are the commentators and/or officials blind? That hit on Gilbert was knee-on-knee from my perspective. Roy comes in in defnce of a dirty hit, and CBJ gets a powerplay out of the deal.... Pretty stinky!

Damn you Scarlett, why didn't you tell me to get this PPV before I got the Sens one! I can't afford two in a week!

Damn. Maybe I should head over to a BP's.

I hate the instigator penalty. I really do.

Kyle, I forgot to tell you. My bad!

I can't remember the last time the Oilers had a 2-0 lead. Seriously, that's sad.

Kevin Lowe is being interviewed and guess what? Gene threw him some nice softball questions.

Gilbert is out with a mild concussion. Nice, another one. This team just can't get a break.

I'm stuck listening to the Columbus guys rant about Thoreson's "hit" on Nash and how unfair the extra call on the Blue Jackets was. But for some reason it makes sense that Roy shouldn't be able to defend Gilbert? This is torture.

Smid scores! Way to go Laddy!!!

Smid's first career goal set up by Lupul's first career backcheck!!

Aw shit. Up by three? This never ends well.

Yeah - why does Roy get 17 minutes in the box while Nash gets a 2 minute roughing call? Screw the PP, take Nash off for a period. Oil down to 4d for awhile. Greene smiles inwardly.

Horcoff gets another goal on the pp. Beautiful. 4-0 for the Oil.

Canuck fans...making Flames fans tolerable by comparison since 2001.

Line-brawl developing.

Stortini obliterates Berard and Nash goes after Zack. That guy knows how to play his role. In a year, 46 jerseys will be selling like crack and a popular phrase will be "Georges who?"

46 and 22 sound like they're making waves in this 3rd period, yes?

Speaking of line brawls, anybody ssee what happened between Ottawa and Buffalo? As far as I can tell from reading the summaries, there were three fights (i.e. three sets of fighting majors awarded) simultaneously, two of which involved Ray Emery. Crazy? Crazy.

Hahaha. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

Tell me you wouldn't want two prospects and two picks for Smyth. You can re-sign him in the summer after he wins the cup. Yeah?

Good game. Odds on Shelley getting suspended for the sucker punch on Stortini? I'd guess nil. I though Rob Brown did an admirable job on the PPV.

I'll have to watch for the Sens/Sabres battle. Was it similar to the Rangers/Devils fight? I read an article on Emery somewhere today, and it didn't sound to me like he was going to take any shit from anybody. The league is going to have to do something about this stuff. The game is getting real dirty. Even dirtier than normal, which is saying something.

I think your lobbying is admirable, personally. It shows good taste, as well as dedication. But no, you can't have him. Just like you couldn't have Gretzky. But we'll give you Messier again if you want.

Holy shit. Deep Blue Sea is on TBS AND Access. At almost the exact same point.

YOU AIN'T NEVER SEEN MY MOVIES? Deep Blue Sea? They ate me! A f**king shark ate me!!!

I've heard a couple of references to something going down in the last Devils-Rangers game (i.e. before tonight), but the scoresheet ain't saying much. What's that all about?

Re: Devils/Rangers, a buddy of mine posted these Avery/Brodeur pics

Yes, I'd want a huge return for Smyth, and I'd want him back here in the summer. That being said:

a) Will anyone give that up?

b) There's a risk in dealing Smyth. If you have a "gentlemen's agreement" to sign him for 5.25 million a year this summer, and Detroit comes over the top and offers him 6 million a season, then how much value does a handshake have? I suppose it comes down to how much Lowe can trust Smyth and Meehan.

I'd rather they just sign him, deal off some other pieces for mid-level picks and prospects, let the kids play down the stretch, and if they somehow squeak in the playoffs, bonus!
