Am I On Crazy Pills Here?

Everyone knows Matt Cooke is a pussy, and won't fight. So rather than go after him, why aren't the Oilers going after the Sedins? It's patently obvious, isn't it? I mean, the Oilers just got a goal scored on them because Torres and Hemsky went after Cooke, who we all know is going to just jabber away. So rather than retaliate, the Oilers should punish Vancouver's star players with physical contact, and make them retaliate. I'm right, right?

Comments:

That's exactly what needs to happen.

I'd say both those penalties were questionable, though. How those are called, while Cowan's hit from behind on MAB and Cooke's skating back and hitting Nedved aren't called is beyond me.

Is it wrong for me to want to see Cooke in a situation where he's eating all his meals through a straw for 8 to 12 weeks?

Pound the Sedins, and if they're up late by 2+ goals, then send Stortini after him with a directive to kick his ass with no regards to whether he "wants" to go.

How the hell is there a no-call on the Nedved play, and then we get another two penalties on dinky shit?

And in the off-season, will someone make sure he hits the frickin weight room?

He can handle the physical contact. He's not Alex Tanguay. But they are sensitive to people taking liberties. And when it's Cooke, you assume there are liberties.

Fucking Sedins again.

It's a penalty to catch up to the slowest skater in the NHL?

I'd need to see the replay again, I thought it was a pretty good defensive play made possible by Nedved skating at a glacial pace.

And can Lupul finish a check, for the love of God?

The good ol' hockey game...

I want to destroy something right now.

It's a penalty to catch up to the slowest skater in the NHL?

I thought there was a tug that was as bad as the one that got Pisani 2 minutes. But I could be wrong.

STORNINININNI!

Man, that was nice.

>I think our man Torres might have just gotten himself traded.

Trade? what's a trade?

You know what?

Fuck it. They're gonna win this game.

And Torres will score the winner.

no,what did the coach say?

anybody else see what MacT said after Raffi took the 10 and the 2?

Nope. What did he say?

Roli should have an assist on that goal - see him tell Smid what to do with it? Smid tries to go behind the net, he's got Roli pointing at Sykora - pass, shot, goal!

I've only watched since the second double minor but the Oil are looking pretty good at ES. Again. That Hemsky/Smyth/Horcoff line is creating chances. Hell, Tom Mayson's grandson looks alright too.

MAB has to lead the league in having his shots blocked. He just HAS to.

They are looking great at ES. Lots of deep passes, as Ferraro mentioned.

Memo to MAP: That Stortini fellow seems to have that whole "making the step to the big leagues" thing down. Might want to ask him next time you're in town.

They should have Hejda out there over Peterson. He's looked great tonight.

Fuck me. Roli HAS to make that save. I don't blame him, but that's one you need your goalie to steal for you.

Can someone explain the Luongo/Bertuzzi trade to me again?

Holy crap did Hemsky ever embarrass Cooke with that move. If only he'd shot the bloody thing...

Can someone explain the Luongo/Bertuzzi trade to me again?

Uh, Mike Keenan? Sorry for stating the obvious. BTW, must be a real barn burner in Cowtown tonight. Calgary's out shooting Chicago 4-1 after a period.

I like how the Vernon tribute appears to have taken about an hour. That doesn't seem absurdly over the top at all.

Matt apparently considers him the greatest goalie of all time, and he's sane. I can only imagine what the insane ones think...

This game is so huge. They absolutely need to win. Everyone is gonan have to step up. And their special teams needs to be a difference maker if it gets the chance.

That Hemsky move was beautiful. Too bad he didn't finish, but it sure opened up about three really good opportunities in a row. Gotta love Stortini's effort tonight, though.

I figured Stortini to be the longest of long shots back in the fall but I can tell you a bit about the kid.

When he started his junior career he was a full on nobody.

Kid worked his ass off and by his last year he was team captain (and a decent team too), put up pretty good numbers - he turned himself into a player.

Lots of heart. Lots of heart.

I agree with Andy's comment about running the Sedins, or even Naslund for christs sake.

It's not like Naslund's boyfriend, Todd Bertuzzi, is around to protect him anymore.

Cooke is a total pussy though. Absolutely gutless puke.

Where is Cam Neely to try and ram cooke's head through the boards when you need him?

Every single shot is hiting Luongo in the middle of the chest.

Hemsky has inherited the buzz I think - he gets the same thing.

Unfortunately he has the same finish.

How the hell does Burrows not get an unsportsmanlike on that one? This games has been so unbalanced in terms of calls.

These are the nights as a coach you say to your team, "Nice shooting boys. The goalie is barely getting his crest on those shots!"

Ah, cynicism, a coaches best friend.

Another game done. Great playing there boys. Good thing we haven't hit those two fucks once tonight.

Down by two?

Start running Cooke AND the Sedins.

Highly unlikely Luongo is going to give up 2 goals in 10 minutes.

And guess who looked stupid on the fourth Canucks goal? None other than Smid. But that was preceeded by about a solid minute of no one on the Oilers able to make a fucking pass.

So who are we selling at the deadline? Sykora? Tjarnquist? Smith even?

So much for the defensive prowess of Toby Peterson. Why the hell is he out there again?

So who are we selling at the deadline? Sykora? Tjarnquist? Smith even?

Right now, it wouldn't bother me if they traded every player other than their first line.

Another awesome PP. I'm still waiting for those statistical certainties to kick in.

This isn't the first time that Torres fucked things up in a high intensity game. He can't seem to walk that fine line and use his fucking head when there is some shaking going on. Yes, I am blaming him for the loss.

They better trade him now, too, because he's about to go on a 15 game self-esteem reconciliation tour.

For tonight at least, it looks like the beginning of the end.

Damn, what happened to this team!?

This game has been their entire season in a nutshell. One bad play per game. One weak goal per game. No powerplay. No scoring depth. Dumb penalties. Mediocre officiating. It's had it all.

Why aren't they getting booed? They certainly deserve it.

And COL ties it up in the last minute, and wins it 25 seconds into OT. That's lovely.

Fucking bullshit.

Did any Oiler not named Ales Hemsky generate ANYTHING in the third period?

Truth is that the Oilers should have won this game. Two five-on-three PP goals make the difference.

I wish Matt Cooke and Dion Phaneuf would go knee on knee with each other sometime. It would be the greatest thing ever.

And COL ties it up in the last minute, and wins it 25 seconds into OT. That's lovely.

Consider this my official "our season is over" declaration. I still can't believe we didn't even attempt to hit the Sedins.

Oh, and now I have to listen to Brophy. Just kill me now.

Little off topic, but Stortini in southern Italian slang means, "a little stupid"

I think you have to be a little stupid to be an NHL enforcer....

Well at least Calgary choked.

choked, yes. but still earned 1 more point thatn the Oil.

If that Cowan hit is called in the first period, this is an entirely different game.

If that Cowan hit is called in the first period, this is an entirely different game.

Salient point. It clearly pissed off the Oilers, and it took them a period and a half to move past it.

Much like it has taken Oiler's fans 16 years to get over the "glory days"... oh wait, y'all aren't over that yet.

What a win! The poor Oilers never recovered from those 2 5-on-3's. The Canucks matched the Coilers' physical play and then for the most part, slowed the game down to their level to finish it off.
The Oiler fans that we watched the game with were pretty silent afterward...I don't know how many more Horcoff jokes I could have told before they started crying.
Aside from the jokes, I wonder what the hell the Oilers are going to do now. What will reverse their fortunes? Dropping deadweights like Sykora and Lupul couldn't hurt. I see you guys have the same reasons to hate Lupul as we do Jan Bulis.

You'd think Vancouver fans were winning the Stanley Cup all of the sudden.

The fans are as fair as the weather in Vancouver: I don't remember a lot of Nucklehead crowing in October.

I don't remember a lot of Nucklehead crowing in October.

We'll still be crowing in April.

You?

:-)

You?

Oh man, I can't wait to throw that one back at you.

Much like it has taken Oiler's fans 16 years to get over the "glory days"... oh wait, y'all aren't over that yet.

Oh for sure. And we were all hoping Ken Linseman was going to score a couple last night.

Nope, we were't crowing in October. You know why?

A little modesty and humility.

Canucks' fans--much like Oilers fans never are--were cautiously optimistic and well aware of the team's weaknesses and shortcomings.

Now, in February, with the team evidently coming together and embracing its identity, they are managing a lot of success; much more than most Canucks fans could have even anticipated at the beginning of the season.

Canucks fans just wanted the bandwagon to get some momentum before jumping on.

Hopefully the stop isn't too quick or there could be a lot of Vancouverites with broken ankles when they are thrown off.

Easy to sit there and toss around insults about bandwagons.

Many Canucks fans--myself included--spent years watching one of the worst teams in the league during the 1980s. We routinely missed the playoffs in a league where 16 of 21 made it.

We have suffered more than Oilers fans, or Flames fans for that matter, could even fathom.

Yet, still, most of us have kept on supporting the team.

Some bandwagon.

I agree completely. It is ridiculous that people call the Canucks fans bandwagon. Look at the Flames and Oilers attendance during their years of mediocrity. Over the last 10 years, where on average the 3 teams have been equally as good (as indicated by their records) I'd be willing to be the Canucks have the highest attendance. I'm too lazy to look into it, but I'm fairly confident that is the case.

Oilers and Flames fans all of a sudden think they're all superfans after their teams went on runs to the Cup finals - the Flames much more so. Talk about bandwagon jumpers.

If you fools want to know... through out the lean years of the 90's the Flames filled the Saddledome more than the Oilers... you can check that stat...

I'm no bandwagon Canucks fan, but in a general sense it's true to say we are a fickle bunch.

One look at the canucks.com message board will testify to that.

Grabia, if the Canucks tank the rest of the way and the Oilers manage to make the playoffs, I'll not expect you to throw it back in my face, but I'll demand it from you :-) It's not beyond the realms of possibility either, as there are still only 9 points separating 1st from 5th in the damned NW.

Temujin--I wouldn't judge our fans by the posting at Canucks.com message boards any more than I would judge Oilers, Flames, Habs, Leafs or Sens fans by the posters at the message boards on their official sites. The fact of the matter is, people that post on those boards are (a) under the age of 13, (b) woefully unintelligent (just check out the spelling and grammar; it is enough to send an English teacher to suicide), or, usually, both.

Patently? The word you're looking for is blatantly.
