You guys have to relax on the callups. I think they called Mikhnov early so that they actually have a spare forward. When the called JFJ, there were flight problems and he got in pretty late on Saturday.
I'm guessing they wanted Mikhnov here early enough to get him into the gametime routine. It would be easier to start him in the home game where the matchups can be managed. Maybe we see JFJ, Mik, Pouliout on the Penguinito line?
aha, i was right:
from the Edmonton Journal - Ireland column
DELAY OF GAMER
It used to be that the way back to the NHL was through hard work. Now it's hard work and the standby lane at the airport. Alexei Mikhnov, like Jean-Francois Jacques and Marc-Antoine Pouliot before him, didn't get into Vancouver in time to skate with the Oilers. The difference this time was that he hadn't been pencilled in on the game day lineup.
