Yertle the Mirtle

Be sure and check out James Mirtle's foray into the Globe & Mail's hockey blog, Globe on Hockey. Someone somewhere mentioned the other day that the NHL should get on board with YouTube, and as James reports, they are in fact doing so. Congrats, James, and don't forget us little guys!

Random question: what happens after the first two weeks of November?

Yeah, it's a good question. It's going to go to a pay for use format, but how extensive (or what form that will take), who knows.

All I know is that I'm staying far, far away from that Game 7, 1994 Stanley Cup finals video.

Wait, this stuff will be made available? I could get G6 2003 SCF footage? I've never seen it (pre-Tivo and the like), but it was crazy to be at.

This is pretty cool, and a good idea - but the compressed video format doesn't lend itself well to such a high speed game. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably waste hours a week on this.

Speaking of which, after watching the first 10 minutes of the '91 WCF G5, doesn't MAB look like the 2nd coming of Norm MacIver?

I went on the Google Video site and clicked on Vancouver, and there it was: Every Canuck fans' worst nightmare.

"And then LaFayette hit the post..."

For some reason, the Oilers "classic" videos is a grand total of 1: Game 5 of the 1991 Western Conference Finals against the Stars. WTF? Could they pick a more depressing series?

And MLB streams their content, so how can the NHL say this is the first time it has occured?

Apparently, the Canadiens' "classic" games are:
- the last time Toronto won the Cup
- the one and only time the Cup was won by a visiting team in the Forum
- the 1979 Conference final, aka Cherry's 'too many men' game.

:/

Could be worse. It could be the Steve Smith game.
