Welcome to Alberta
Connect Logistics [the gov't's booze distributor - ed.] spokesman George Rodziewicz said the backlog is attributed to the province's labour shortage and unprecedented volumes of liquor orders.
Today's Calgary Sun. I have about 6 separate takes on the various implications of this one sentence, but I think I'll just let it hang out there.
Comments:
Its worked splendidly for 14 years with no complaints until now. Its just growing pains due to a superheated economy. Better than Saskatchewans archaic big brother liquor system.
Hmmm, 14 year old system with no previous complications, comparing the combined success of both of Alberta's hockey teams over that time frame, and I think I may have found the problem...
The alcohol distributors were not ready for both the Flames and Oilers to have decent success at the same time again...
And when it comes to the labour shortage, couldn't people just volunteer some time. I mean some things are just important in life to make some sacrifices in the name of all mankind...
I wonder if they'll have enough alcohol in the Northern portion of the province for all the Oil fans to drown their sorrows after tomorrow night's game?
Question: Where is the bottleneck? Is it getting the product to the warehouse or getting the product from the warehouse to the businesses?
If it is the latter, do businesses have the option of picking up their orders at the warehouse (at least until the backlog of orders clears up)?

Where do you think the shortage came from? Southern Albertans self medicating and attemping to cope after ROUND ONE of last year's playoffs.
Upon further reflection, going all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup final wasn't so easy on the liver either...
Why in the name of Ralph Klein is the government still in the booze wholesaling business? It's the 21st century. Liquor stores should be able to buy booze directly from Bo and Luke Duke if they want to.
Connect have never been splendid for the past 14 years. They've always been mediocre and resolve complaints just like they actually were the government.
They set the rules and you, the customer, follow them.
They need their comfy little contract pulled out from under them, no matter what government bureaucrats who profit from it say about it.
"They need their comfy little contract pulled out from under them, no matter what government bureaucrats who profit from it say about it"
That is such a typically ignorant comment on government that it's funny.
