Fine, I'll start. Any night that the Drugstore crowd goes home disappointed is a good one.
Also, who knew that Lowe was getting a 30min/night workhorse in return for Pronger. What a genius!
They should've known Hemsky bruised like a peach!
Oh and the post-glory Pronger conference. Gag.
I almost saw spots from the rage.
I think that took....what, about a minute, total? Sort of like a train wreck.
How many injuries/missing players were there? Hemmer, Bergeron, Winchester, Staios, Markkanen...
I'm so angry right now. They dominate the first, play a so-so second, and then sit back on the lead for the entire third period. How do I know this? Because Ethan Moreau sits in the booth and says that is what they do. He calls it "situational hockey." Roli is playing good. They'll just sit back for the third and hope it works out. Here's the catch: you give up ten-twelve shots in a period, even with a goalie with a .900+ Sv%, odds are one is gonna go in.
They blow a lead with 16 seconds left, perhaps because the goalie has decided that he wants to pretend he's Patrick Roy and leave his net about 20 times a game, rather than letting his defencemen play the puck and clear it. In overtime, Smytty makes an awful pass to turn it over, Smith screens the goalie, and the goalie lets in one he should have had.
In addition, the coach decides to bench one of his defencemen for two periods, when the team is already down a player due to injury. He doesn't even put him up in the forward position. He just wastes him on the bench. He also doesn't play the team's top scorer in overtime, I guess to preserve his strength for the next game.
On top of it all, I spend $75 at a bar to watch this junk happen. Super.
Oh, one more thing. We lose a second time to a team that has one dangerous player. And I have to eat it from Earl. Again.
The injuries were a toughie, I'll let ya off easy.
Thank goodness Roloson got up from that vicious nearness of Rob Niedermayer.
Typical Oiler hockey....strong start and crappy finish. I am sure glad that I was there tonight (not).
I hope Hemmer isn't hurt too bad. Anyone got news on that?
It was like watching a little bit of the playoffs all over again--you're so sure they can do it, so sure they'll pull it off, and then all of a sudden they just stop trying hard enough.
And that interview with Pronger was somehow just insult to injury, the way he kept playing it off like it was just another game the Ducks won like always.
As for Hemmer I really hope that doesn't turn into something too bad--last I heard they were still saying nothing was confirmed but the early diagnosis didn't look good.
MAB hardly played after the first because he was sick with the flu (note, this isn't a Vic phantom injury :-). Course that means MAB shouldn't have been playing in the first place...but apparently MacT left it up to #47 to decide if he could play. Yeah. Players are always known as being a good judge of their capacity, especially when sick.
Hemsky news: Team1260 reported that the initial prognosis is for Hemsky to miss at least 10 days, and the Oilers' medical staff will know more tomorrow (OK, they probably said Hemsky instead of Hemmer). They also said Hemsky's arm was in a sling as he left the rink. At least 10 days...obviously, that's not good. Not good at all.
- Rod
Andy, you might try phoning around to see if you can hook yourself up with some anti-depressants; the oil pplay is going to get ugly, I'm afraid.
Did they even replay the Hemsky injury on the PPV? I don't remember. All I remember is the riveting segment on how the ice staff clears off snow during t.v. timeouts. The insight was overwhelming.
The Edm Sun this morning said this:
Hemsky, 23, is out with what's only being called a right shoulder injury, pending further assessment by team medical staff. He left the arena with his arm in a sling.
"I haven't heard, other than it's petty severe, according to the medical staff," said coach Craig MacTavish. "We'll have an opportunity to assess it overnight."
Sounds like he's gone more than 10 days. I hoe not.
The really sad part about the whole thing was, up until the OT goal, Smyth and Smith had both played hella-good games. I'd go as far as to say it might have been Gator's best game all season.
And the guy still ends up -2. This is why I don't trust the plus/minus stat.
I'm hoping Lowe moves up that timetable for bringing in some reinforcements for the blueline. Having Staios proved that, beyond the "top pairing puckmover", we need a 2nd guy to provide some veteran depth.
All that being said, I am liking Jan Hejda so far. Moreso that the Tjarnqvist we've seen the last 10-15 games.
Oh, and I realized my hate-on for the Ducks has reached proportions greater than that of the Flames. At least the Flames have some elements I like about them. It's more regional rivalry than anything else. The Ducks? Let's see...
- Randy Carlyle
- Chris Pronger
- Ryan Getzlaf (I wanted to put a fist through the TV when this asshole scored the winner last night)
- Teemu Selanne
- Todd Marchant
- Corey Perry
Six pretty good reasons right there. Six guys I absolutely cannot STAND.
16 seconds....FUCK. And with Hemsky going down early and Staios down. There is a glimmer of hope here folks. I think if the Oilers get a couple d-men and add a healthy Moreau and Hemsky to the mix, they can take the "Cockface Stinkfucks" in a seven game series. (Yes, I am going to apply that particular nickname to the entire team, because that's what I think of them).
All I remember is the riveting segment on how the ice staff clears off snow during t.v. timeouts. The insight was overwhelming.
Yep, welcome to the wonderful world of PPV.
well on the bright side the hate for pronger is gone. It dissapated the second i saw the look on Getzlaf's face. what a dickweed
Wow. I didn't realize Getzzy had a hate-inspiring facial expression for getting the game-winner. I rather thought in the event a young, talented Oiler (Pisani? Lupul? anyone?) were to score the game winner, they would have looked something similar. And besides, he was happy to have helped win for Scott Niedermayer's 1,000th game.

Perry? I barely noticed him all night... how did Perry end up on this list? I pretty much understand the rest...
"Cockface Stinkfucks" in a seven game series. (Yes, I am going to apply that particular nickname to the entire team, because that's what I think of them).
Ouch. Pretty creative, though, and honestly, if I were an Oiler fan, I'd probably feel the same.
In any case, props to Smyth and Smith, because up until those final minutes, they had been amazing. Ryan Smyth is probably the player I respect most (that isn't a Duck). Last season, in the playoffs, I stood outside shouting at the Edmonton bus that I wanted to meet Capt Canada... didn't happen, but nevertheless, I like that guy. He's damn good at what he does. I liked Reasoner's game too, and Winchester scares me... so, take heart, Edmontonians, your team is not quite down and out. And once you get your roster patched up and/or healthy, you'll be a stronger force to be reckoned with.
OK, now I feel a little sick. Ducks fans do remember that we kicked their asses, right? In five, yeah? And that we did have a full roster, right, not just Chris "It's No Big Deal" Pronger? It was one loss after five straight wins, and we got our point. I think we'll be OK.

Yes, we remember. I don't think the players forgot either, as the memory seemed to give them fuel to play this one hard until the buzzer sounded at the end of the 3rd. I'm just happy the spell has finally been broken and the Ducks were able to steal one away after losing so many in Edmonton, so many in fact, the last win for Anaheim in Edmonton dates back to 1999.
the last win for Anaheim in Edmonton dates back to 1999.
I hate that stat, by the way. I get what it's saying, but really, the Ducks won the last time they played in Rexall, forcing a 5th game.
Maybe if it was better-worded ("regular season win" or something), but even then, it implies a demon that, in my mind, was already vanquished last spring.
finny: A couple clarifications.
First, "Cockface Stinkfuck" is one of the Oh-So-Creative Pronger nicknames in the BOA "Glossary". I figured I'd just expand it to include the whole team.
Second, Corey Perry: I have an irrational hate-on for the guy. Thought he was an overrated prospect in junior, and that he was a bit of a whiny bitch in the 2005 Memorial Cup. Just don't like the guy.
My hate-on for Getzlaf is a bit different. He's cocky, but man, he could back it up. I'm hoping it wasn't a case of Lowe having a choice of Lupul or Getzlaf during the negs with Burke leading up to the Pronger deal....because if that choice WAS on the table, Lowe messed up (my belief is that Burke probably said something like this: "Every young player not named Ryan Getzlaf is in play...he's off limits"). The guy is a keeper. And he's the kind of guy that drives the opposition (and fans of rival teams) crazy.
Wow, it's like someone said last year during the Cup finals against the Hurricanes: I can't believe I actually have a hate-on for the freakin' Anaheim Ducks. But here we are...
Can there be any sadder phrase than "forcing a fifth game"?
I had better ones, but they were confiscated at the door.
sweatyo - thanks for the clarification... Now I get it... haha, though I love the Perry-Getzzy combo. They feed off one another, and I've seen it jive well for each guy in different games though I didn't notice it much last night. And yes, Getzzy is hella talented, and I'm glad he's still proving his worth by picking up his points and getting the job done. Heh. So-called fourth line. =D
And the nickname for Pronger (now applied to the team), interesting story. Now, if you choose to continue calling the entire team by that, I'll know why. =D Thanks again, for clarifying!
