Well, Then
There you go, Earl. Enjoy. I really don't think the Oilers played badly tonight. In fact, I think they played really well, outside of the crease. It was the goaltending that cost us this game. Six goals on eighteen shots. Roli looked bad from the very beginning. Big rebounds, not getting out on shots. Bad, bad, bad. Alex Hemsky was also driving me crazy with his refusal to take shots, but it didn't cost us anything. I thought Fernando Pisani looked great, in the time he had out there. He and Torres and Stoll were really dictating the play in the first. It seemed like they got less ice as the game went on, but I don't know if that is in fact true.
The best thing about this loss is that it was humiliating. Not for me, because I'm going to have to take it from Earl until mid-November, but for the Oilers. They should now be extremely motivated for tomorrow's game against Phoenix, which had the stench of upset all over it. Plus, Roli will now have to stew on his poor performance until Saturday, as Jussi will probably draw in against the Yotes.
Every goalie eventually has a bad game. I'd prefer it be early in the season rather than at the end of the year. An irritating loss because it happened against the Ducks, sure. But in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. Hopefully.

Comments:
Goalies do have bad nights, it's only when it's your goalie that it's acceptable. There is no sympathy for the devil. Will you be letting Giguere of the hook if he has a bad one against the Oil?
I don't think Sleek will rub it in (much). He is more of a responder. But he is a good responder.
A shame about the goaltending, but how Sammy Pahlsson isn't first star of every game is beyond me.
I'm filing all those historic losses under "Mighty Ducks".
Anaheim Ducks 1, Edmonton Oilers 0.

Oh God.
I certainly wouldn't hesitate to lay the blame at Roli's feet, though I would offer up the fact that the Oilers pretty much fell apart in the third as being a contributing factor. Ugly turnovers, sloppy play, and weak goals certainly didn't help matters any. We were in it until the fifth goal.
Exactly. Roli has won several games for us. I can live with him *losing* an occasional one for us too. Last year they lost games for us regularly and very rarely won them for us. Besides... a whoopin is good for a team every once in a while.
Nice to hear the "Let's Go Oilers" chant at the Pond...not to mention the booing of Pronger
A whopping 13,537 fans showed up for this tilt, probably under 13k without the Oilfans there.
oh well, better take it out on the 'Yotes tomorrow!
e-town
I agree. I was in Anaheim for this one. The Oil played a bang up game and dominated play, especially early. Giguere was fantastic, Roli was not...really really not. Thoreson looked great, Raffi too. Gah, bummer. 66% save percentage won't get it done. It honestly could have been 2-0 Oil.
The one thing that scared me was how poorly our two best players this season were in this game.
Roloson - can't believe how bad he looked, especially on that 4th goal. That softie reminded me of our goalie tandem of last season. Took a lot of wind out of our sails. He seemed mentally out of this game from the start.
Sykora - hardly remember him in the game even.
On teh other hand... the Ducks played a great pressure game.
Tough loss... but was kinda expected. We were in it for 2 periods and we knew we need to get better in many areas... hopefully this is the real shot in the ass that gets things going.
stupid blogger - Andy and I were having a little give and take, some back and forth and then ... gonzo
oh well - better last night then the the Conference Finals, I say.
Anaheim has a good club though, no doubt about it. And Earl is right. Pahlsson makes guys disappear.
We might see these guys again in the spring.
Alex? Hemsky
Yeah, Roli... had an off night - I guess we should have played 5-0 duck-beater Markkanen tonight. Oh well...
Oh and props to those Oiler fans that made the trip down to Anaheim just to boo Pronger.
Hey Grabia,
Have you seen this?

Looks like you got a second chance to grab the site.
Tough game last night but at least the score wasn't indicative of the play. After the playoff run Roli is allowed a stinker or two.
GA #1, bad because of the silly rebound
GA #2, Smith almost stopped the pass, so I can live with that one
GA #3, that was just a great shot by Getzlaf
GA #4, awww, just wish he could have stopped that one.
Third Period - The Ducks effectively 2-2-1 against us. It reminds me why Marchant was loved here. Those goals were due to the Oilers pressing, and the Ducks got those ones on transition.
In general, one less pass in the o-zone would be preferred.
Silver lining of the night: two minors taken. I couldn't believe it myself, but damn, what a night to blow a two-penalty performance on.

For whatever reason, Ducks are getting somewhat shafted in the PP-opportunity world. They haven't scored a PPG in their last three games, and have had received all of 7(!) opportunities in those 3 games.
Then again, there wasn't really a penalty that I thought went uncalled (maybe too-many-men) last night, so maybe we're not really deserving, either.
Still, it's weird one game (Det) to get 10 PP opportunities then 7 over the next three games.
Guess they're taking the "standard" out of officiating standards this year.
You are right, Goalies do have bad nights. But Rolosons bad night, was because he didn't shake off his mask or kick the net off, when he clearly needed a break or something.
I think sleek will rub this in way past November, I think that was a conservative estimate on your part.
Anyway Ducks 1, Oilers 0!
GO DUCKS!
Actually I think Smid could've been called for boarding on the Rneidermayer hit, but then, Rneidermayer could have been called on the retaliatory high stick, so it kinda cancelled out.
Roli had a bad night.
The Ducks on the other hand, have had a bad existence.
If any of you think Pronger won't keep it in his pants there, and then pull the same sort of crap he pulled in EDM, then keep dreaming.
Judging by this blog, there is no Phoenix - Edmonton tilt this evening. Get cracking Grabia (and special attention to the vaguely relevant photos).
Well, bad night or not, it's 2 more points for the Ducks, and some bragging rights until November. Must burn just a bit that Chris Pronger assisted on three of the Ducks' six goals, but I'll just glory in the bragging rights.
"there's Ducks fans? coulda fooled me last night looking at the seats"
and your team could have fooled me for a junior high squad last nigh, the ducks whooped you, can't wait till november so we can do it again, but this time up in your own building. ouch thats gonna hurt.
quit blaming the loss on roli, he didn't play all that well but it was more than just him, bad turnovers and sloppy play contributed to the oilers losing more than anything!!!
