Chomp Chomp

Big week in Oil Country coming up. One game against a team we embarrassed in the first round last year, two against Wayner, Comrie, Le GG and the atrocious Coyotes, one against Christie and the Ducks (who we embarrassed in the thrid round), and one against Alexander the Great, Semin (tee hee), and the rest of the Capitals AHL roster. It's too bad that the Ducks game isn't in Edmonton this week, if only because it would make the contrast in how Georges and Pronger are received that much more startling. But a game is a game, and it will be interesting to see how the Oilers match up with the Ducks.

The Oilers are 3-0 at home, and 1-2 on the road. Their Goal Differential is 4, for a 0.67 Differential Per Game Average. I see no reason why they can't win at least three, maybe four of these games, although Detroit is better than they look on paper. They've faced some tough opponents to start the season. Then again, what team in the Western Conference hasn't?

The schedule doesn't get any easier, so the Oilers need to fine tune their game and eat up some points over the next seven days. Make it happen boys!

Comments:

How'd the Ducks get lumped in with such crummy also-rans?

It's like a hockey-power sandwich, except you used shit for bread.

Anyway, I kid because I can. If you want some fun, go check out the WC standings. I could stare at 9th-place Detroit for about 25 minutes, and it would take twice that amount of time to wipe the grin off my face.

The amazing thing about this October schedule for the Oil is EVERY game has some special impact.

Obvious divisional h&h plus the Colorado game. Pride games vs SJS, DET, ANA. THen the PHO and WSH games, well we better get 2 out of three of those as W.

I know we can't win'em all. DET looks like a penalty magnet lately, so if the boys are skating well they're going to get some shots. Roli to steal the game.

We need a marginal forward to score, like 5 goals in the two games vs PHO, so that we can use that as bait to pry somebody good off of Phoenix's back end.

Well, I think we all know what we want in the ANA game. Pronger held pointless and -2 on the night. However, realistically -- they are pretty tight defensively so its going to be a close one. Sykora with the winner in a SO (and he bumps Carlyle in the shoulder as he walks by him wearing the pimp coat).

Ya, I don't know what the deal is with the Wings. They gave up, what, five powerplay goals last night to the Sharks? So much for the vauntedd PK talents of Draper and Maltby. Hasek's SV% is under .900, and Zetterberg and Datsuk have 3 points each. And if things stay the same, they won't be racking up easy points playing the Hawks or Blue Jackets, either. Could be a long year.

On Sat, the Wings are playing their 3rd game in 4 nights (0-2 so far). Oil are rested. Ripe.

What will be interesting to see is how the Oilers play the Coyotes and Capitals. We know that they will be jacked to play the Wings and Ducks but hopefully they will take a note from last season's Detroit team and max out their points against teams that they should beat.

Agreed Pat. I always feel like the Oil raise or lower the level of their play to the level of their opponent. I'd like to see a consistently high level of play. We should bury the Coyotes and Caps. If I was the coaching staff, I'd be showing the boys highlights from that Sabres/Flyers game. Coooold-blooded!!!

My god, Grab. I'm going to need about two days of free time. I think I need to make a version of pac-man based on your stellar graphic :P

I could stare at 9th-place Detroit for about 25 minutes, and it would take twice that amount of time to wipe the grin off my face.

... my personal favorite is looking at the 2-4-1 Flames. How great would it be if they're just totally lame this year?

hehe

Could you do that? My God, that would be awesome. I was thinking about that last night. Replacing all the ghosts with team ghosts, and using Cups and pucks ad stuff instead of cherries and all that. And did you know that a Japanese version of Pac-Man was called Puck-Man? I was going to use that image, but I'm used to using Fireworks, not Photoshop, and therefore didn't have time to teach myself some stuff last night.

Wokka wokka wokka wokka...

I think showing the Sabres-Flyers game is inspired brilliance. The Oil need to be able to kick a team when they're down, and show the killer instinct even when they don't necessarily need to give 100%.

the Oilers PP is gonna go off on someone pretty soon

That's good, because I'm tired of going off on the Oilers PP.

I was thinking of having four refs instead of ghosts, and the other four NW teams as power pellets. When you get a power pellet, the refs turn into Sutter, and you beat his ass down ;)

Only problem is that I haven't got anywhere near the time to do it :(

here are my predictions LOL

wings(h) - win or ELSE

yotes(h) - win or ELSE

quacks(a) - probable loss or OT loss

yotes (a) - probable loss or OT loss

caps(h) - win or ELSE

methinks the bhoys had better take 7 points out of the 10 on offer if they think they're anything better than a bubble team.

My number don't add up probably, but 7 out of 10 they had still better get cuz otherwise the pussywhipped young oiler fans won't shut up enough for my liking
