Wow*
I have StarChoice as my tee-vee provider here in Lethbridge, and one of the audio channels up in the 800s is 630 CHED out of Edmonton. Anyway, I just listened to Bryan Hall take calls for maybe 5 minutes; nodding and grunting with callers saying stuff like "I just want to take this opportunity to thank Kevin Lowe", and challenging (nay, bullying) callers with the TEMERITY to suggest that "gee, maybe this wasn't the greatest deal". Awesome -- and just like Mike W drew it up!
If it's any consolation, Oiler fans, you gotta know that the reason Michael Peca isn't signed yet is because no one came out on July 1 with the kind of offer that he was expecting. (Your "leverage" is kinda crappy when you're a UFA, isn't it Mike.)
*Footnote: one word post title entirely for Mirtle's benefit

Comments:
Funny, I went with the one-word title on the last post for Mirtle, too. That's four out of the last five, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Once we do wear it out, though, I am going to go the academic route, and have subtitles for everything.
Speaking of radio idiots, on The Fan 590 Bob McCown just said that Lupul would have a hard time in Edmonton because there were only 250,000 people here, and we all know each other. Do his sunglasses hide the fact that he is stoned out of his mind? And how the hell does Elliot Friedman not call him on that?
Yep, I heard the 250,000 remark too. What a tool. How many decades ago did Edmonton pass that population mark? Shows just how much he pays attention to anything outside of Toronto...
That comment also explains why I rarely listen to his show. Today being a holiday and all, there's not much alternative for Pronger talk/news...so I was stuck. Within minutes he piped up with his Edmonton "knowledge", so he guaranteed I won't be back.

Well, those numbers are obviously well off, but it is true that there is a great deal of anonymity going for the Ducks, who generally are less recognized than the Lakers' towel boy in Southern California.
I think Lupul will be fine, though. He's a solid enough sniper to pot 25 goals, probably more if he gets to face Jose Theodore enough times. He's a miserable quote though; he thinks it is his job to memorize the coach's cliche-book in case any reporter asks him a question.
Smid I have never seen play, but all indications were that next year he would be cracking our lineup. The latest Hockey News Top 50 Prospects had him at #10.
So I think a workable deal, but the big gripe should be that Anaheim didn't take much off its roster, mainly just a Lupul-for-Pronger exchange.
Jeez whatta day! Sorry fellas.
Heh, I think McCown's just exaggerating there fellas; he doesn't actually believe that's the city's population total.
No, James. He wasn't "exaggerating." He was dead serious. No lie. I'm not surprised, though. Your buddy Blair from the Globe was talking about how picking up Jovonovski was a "bad karma" move. He was very earnest in his belief that teams with Bertuzzi and Jovo on them would never win, because they brought bad energy with them. And this guys gets paid to be an "expert" on sports. Scary.
And can you be exaggerating when you are vastly underestimating? Hmm. Interesting question. I must research.
Perhaps there's some parallel universe where celebrities can monetize their high recognizability and it is actually be considered an advantage to work in a region where you are famous and admired.
Oh yeah this is gonna be a spin campaign of epic porportions.
It's GAB time baby: time to extoll the virtues of the Good Albertan Boy.
You have Pisani who signed her for "less";)
You have Lupul who's a tremendous pussy and a sulking diver but his grandfather's part of the EIG and he's a local dammit!! And he would never hurt you...so siree Bob!!
I used to say that the old Oilers motto was "excuses in lieu of success."
I think the new one will be "No one wants to play here except these guys so shut up and don't criticize us."
