MacT Signed?
TSN is reporting that Craig MacTavish is "expected" to sign a four-year extension with the Oil.
I'm torn on this, as per usual. His work with Horcoff and Stoll last year was fantasic, he is a great interview, and I'm pretty sure he is a very smart guy. On the other hand, his lineup moves continually baffle me, and the powerplay makes me want to sacrifice virgins to the Hockey Gods.
Thoughts?

Comments:
AGM Scott Howson told Bob Stauffer on Friday that it was "100%" that MacT would be signed to a multiyear deal. Only the "details" remained to be worked out.
I would rather a shorter term 4 years just seems like a long time for a coach who's really only had 1 great season.
I think this is the beginning of a trend in the NHL.
I think its good to have organizational stability and with the cap players are going to be moving a lot more.
I think MacT is a good coach.
I think if you have a good coach you're going to want to keep him.
Good deal.
MacT is a very good coach who may end up being a great one. The 4 year thing is probably a result of them not renewing him and needing to show some good faith after the run.
His ship came in the day the rent came due. Damn it was sure fun.
As for his warts, they all have them. Whitey Herzog at times would bat Willie McGee cleanup and that's just plain crazy. Earl Weaver didn't have anyone to steal 2nd base when he was down 2-1 in the 9th against a pitcher who moved slowly to first base. Gene Mauch would make Barry Bonds bunt TODAY!
MacT's a good one, and getting better.
MEDIA ADVISORY
The Edmonton Oilers will be holding a media conference at the Edmonton International Airport at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006 to announce the signing of members of the team management staff.
Got that in an Oilers Pipeline e-mail. You should go. You're the best reporter on the Oilers!

That's got to be the first time I've heard Weaver accused in one stroke of (a) failing to anticipate game situations and (b) not having a diverse bench. He did have a strong preference for power over speed, but he also prolonged the useful careers of guys like Al Bumbry and John Lowenstein precisely because they gave him extra late-inning options.
You're the best reporter on the Oilers!
I'm all choked up. I wonder what they would say if I showed up. Think I could slip this one through?
"Andy Grabia, Battle of Alberta blog. MacT, if you could, take us through a day in the life of the Oilers dressing room. In particular, could you address the rumours that Chris Pronger's balls were really huge and shiny and full of magic elixir?"
