Laughable
I know Sportsnet/CP is trying to create a story out of the fact that so many Oilers from last season are no longer with the team, but cmon. First off, the only player who has left that wasn't an unrestricted free agent is Chris Pronger. Secondly, Lowe signed two of his three free agent priorities (Roloson and Pisani). Thirdly, Dvorak still hasn't signed with anyone, so you're lying. And lastly, when you include Ty Conklin in order to build up your argument, you're essentially admitting that you have no case at all. So here's my suggestion: stick with facts, rather than making up fiction.
Comments:
Ya, I saw that, and updated. I'm very disappointed in Pierre. He's my favorite hockey reporter. But Sportsnet still posted it, even though there are factual errors in it.
That was Pierre? I mean, they weren't quite Strachanian stretches of the truth, but they were in the neighbourhood. I'm disappointed, too.
Not intending to stoke the so-called fire here, but I don't see where this article is that far off base - the fact is, regardless of Craig McTavish's priorities, a significant portion of the team that came within one win of the Stanley Cup is not returning, including 2 top-four Dmen, 1 'shut-down' centre, and 1 1st-line winger (Samsonov?). The only information that not correct was that Dvorak has gone is not returning - and as things stand now, thats neither true nor not true.

Actually, he said he was gone, and that is not true at all. It's a lie, actually. A white one, but a lie.
My problem with the article is that it implies that it is devastating that all these people left. But it isn't. We expected most of them to be gone. The only exception is Pronger. All the rest were unrestricted free agents, who are free to go wherever they choose. Half of them were picked up with the knowledge that they wouldn't be back this year. I'm not losing any sleep over losing Peca, Samsonov, Spacek, Conklin or even Laraque.
I'm not sure how Reasoner is classified as an acquisition from Boston, yet Tjarnqvist is a signing. Either Three-Dot was acquired too, or they were both signings. I guess he thought he had a good hook at the start, and ran with it.
C'est la vie, I gave up a while ago agonizing over crazy stupid things people wrote. I just stop reading them. Life's too short for the stress generated otherwise. :-)
I know Oilers fans don't want to know or admit it, but the team has a reputation among the players as a poorly run organization that treats its players and their families rather poorly compared to other orgs. Just something to keep in mind.
...the team has a reputation among the players as a poorly run organization that treats its players and their families rather poorly...
Uh, so, what, Kevin Lowe is going to schoolyards and randomly pinching the players' kids on the arm? Did he punch Raffi Torres' grandma? What sort of obligation does the organization have to the families of its employees?
If the Oilers treat their players so awful, why has Smyth stayed wtih the team for ten years. All other players in the past left for money reasons. Pronger left (well we all know why he left) for personal reasons. So explain how they treat their players and families poorly? How is it run poorly? What makes you think the Oil has this reputation?
I'm found most hockey writers are full of ... well something reminiscent of detritus as with most other sports writers. Their job is mostly a joke, and there is only so much to write about that they end up having to fabricate and sensationalize stuff.
Anyone had a good chuckle at Bob McKenzie's supposed expert analysis of the Buffalo-Carolina series? Buffalo will win against Carolina (Carolina wins and Buffalo D-men go down), Carolina will win I don't think Buffalo can recover (Buffalo wins) Buffalo's D by committee will allow them to win (Carolina wins) Buffalo can't get over their D problems, (Buffalo wins again) Buffalo D by committee will allow them to win...etc. etc. etc.
Easy to be an expert when you go with the hot hand...some expert, he flip flopped more than my breakfast slap jacks.

My limited by empirically provable understanding is that the organization always treated the players well, and that this started back in Sather's day, when he would take the players out and buy them suits, amongst other things. I can't even count the number of times I have seen the players out eating together and having a good time. And a lot of ex-players are actually now "organization." So I'm going to call bullshit on that one. It's a model franchise in an ideal hockey town, and Chris Pronger's wife doesn't change that fact. Unless you know all "the players," that is.
Either way, it still doesn't justify the fact that he was actually reporting false information in his story. My 8-year old would have caught the error, but apparently a reporter and an editor whose job it is to catch the mistake were unable to do so.
