How on earth did I miss this?

Dateline--July 13, EDMONTON:
Turns out Chris Pronger isn't the only person who doesn't want anything to do with Edmonton.

City officials found that out the hard way this week, when they struggled to find three randomly selected Canadians willing to accept a free vacation there.

City staff had to offer the trip to 25 people before they could find three takers, admitted city spokesman Robert Moyles.

Yeah, it's been a rough month for the 'chuk.

Comments:

I wish they had called me, I would love to walk down Whyte Ave with a Luongo-Canucks jersey.

"I wish they had called me, I would love to walk down Whyte Ave with a Luongo-Canucks jersey."

You're the freaking coolest.

To be fair, an outfit called "Ramada Plaza Resorts" has been in the news across Canada the last couple years for selling scam vacations to Florida that people have "won". Is it no surprise that people are awfully suspicious of "too good to be true" trips, even if it happens to be a popular holiday destination?

Hey, ask me now if I want to go to Edmonton next summer for free, I'd be all over it.

Ask me now, or even a couple of months ago, if I wanted to go to Edmonton (or practically anywhere else) this summer for free, and I'd have to say no. I've got a job and family, we already planned our vacation and I planned my work around that.

Maybe it was just poor planning / timing on their part; the article is pretty skimpy on the details.

And my guess is that oilers fans would have guessed that someone from Ponolka was out on a day pass.
