Holiday Road

I'm going on a quest for fun. A Mancation. And I won't be back for three whole days. If the Sykora deal, or this rumoured Sabres/Oilers/Canucks three-way, go down while I'm gone, well then f*#@k it. Someone else will have to cover it. I'll be mad, because I like writing about threesomes, but what can I do? I gotta see a man about a Moose, and not even a--I believe the word is ménage à trois-- is gonna stop me. Camp Northstar, Wally World, here I come!!!

I'm attempting to keep in mind that this is on European ice, against non-NHLers, but this YouTube clip of Alexei Mikhnov has me dying for an agreement between the NHL and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. I don't know if I've ever seen a player that big skate that fast. Makes you wonder if Lowetide is correct, and a bunch of Oilers forwards are going to be moved. I'm also a big fan of the soundtrack to this clip. Its got a Scorpions vibe going on that makes me want to both smash things and make sweet love to a hobo.

Comments:

>I don't know if I've ever seen a player that big skate that fast.

Beautiful clip. Although I wonder if he looks so fast because all of his opponents look so slow and TERRIBLE.

There's some Division 4 intramural-quality defence on a few of those plays, but you have to like those hands and Alexei's drive to the net.

Agree, 100%. But it sure is tantalizing, isn't it?

I can't dispute that, but in fairness most of these clips do seem to come from international competition. On the best goal in the reel, he's sucking the doors off of some Finnish national team. (Which makes the choice of music a little ironic.)

Sweet clip.

And Grabia, why does a guy in your line of "work" even need a vacation?

Are you too relaxed?

Although having sex with hobos does sound like an awfully good time.

I'm in!

Traktor excitis muchokos.

Cosh,

How the hell did you know who was singing that?

And it looks like the Oilers are going to try and get Mikhnove here, regardless of the deal with the Russians.

oh, man . . . that video makes me want to cry.

drives the net - check
skates fast - check
can stickhandle in traffic - check
great vision - check
can go end to end - check
can beat guys 1 on 1 - check
can beat guys 1 on 2 - check
can beat guys 1 on 3 - check
over 6' and over 200 lb - freaking check

If he can do that in the NHL there are going to be alot of Mikhnov jerseys because the boy has some pretty sweet moves.

I think some of those clips are from the WHC as well.

The guy is an absolute freak as far as tools go. Is there a raw physical/performance metric that he doesn't appear to have in spades? I don't think anyone would bother to disagree with that. Whether or not he can play an adequate game at the NHL level is what I'd like to find out.

The best thing to do is go watch the Schremp video and the Mikhnov one back to back and then tell me which one seems to have the more NHL-translatable game. I'm pretty sure it looks like the big guy right now.

Aside... Mike W: Speaking of Div.4 IM quality defence, how bad does OHL hockey look in those videos? The dmen are so clueless on the PK it's unbelievable.

I don't know if I've ever seen a player that big skate that fast.

Malkin's got to be close to 6 foot 4, and man can he move. This kid looks a little bit like him.

I realize it wouldn't come as a complete surprise if I confessed to an encyclopedic knowledge of late-90s Finnish metal, but I have to admit I just Googled for the lyrics.

looks like a young Ron Francis.

Before he got slow.

Wow its dead around here lately.

I couldn't even understand the lyrics. All I got was "la la la la Aphrodite la la la la..."

And I did actually assume that you knew late 90s Finnish metal. Others might think that weird, but I was totally impressed.

Malkin's got to be close to 6 foot 4, and man can he move.

Malkin is that tall? Wow. I had no idea. He didn't seem that huge to me, whereas Tractor here seems like a monster.

Wow its dead around here lately.

True, but what are we supposed to do? It's summer. I'd post some stuff, even make up rumours, but half the commenters aren't even around. And what fun is posting stuff if you can't argue about it with people you've never met before for an entire day?

I guess you missed the part about "Breasts which never nursed," then.

I guess you missed the part about "Breasts which never nursed," then.

I must have, because that's just a dead giveaway.

If there's a higher power in this universe, Mikhnov will be able to do that in the NHL...if there is a hockey god.

And if there is a god and he's an Oiler's fan he'll blast Malkin nad Crosby off the map and dominate the league for the next 18 years.

(notice I didn't capitalize 'god' so please don't kill me if any Jesus freaks are out there...or right wing Christians from the US church belt)
