The people have spoken

In the grand tradition of The Daily Show, please give a warm welcome to The Battle of Alberta's new Senior Oilers Correspondent: Andy Grabia.

Many of you will know Andy as the lead contributor (by volume, at least!) for Sports Matters. He only became suitable for this position about two weeks ago when these two things hit him like a ton of bricks:
  1. The Hartford Whalers actually aren't the Hartford Whalers anymore
  2. Said franchise was standing between the Oil and the Stanley Cup
Andy, properly, is no longer a hockey bigamist -- he only has eyes for the Oilers. And speaking of eyes, he's a hell of a ringer for the Prime Minister.

As part of this fortuitous arrangement, I'll be contributing to Sports Matters on occasion (generally on the topic of my other love - equestrian).

Andy will pop up here sometime in the next few days to get things going. Welcome, sir. And...

Go Flames.

Comments:

Does this count as "signing a big name free agent" or "giving the job to the first person who wants it"?

Or "killing Sacamano?"

Appreciate the support, Cosh. Love you, too.

How's it going in the baseball league, anyways?

Good call. Welcome Andy, I'll look forward to your stuff.

Can you tell the other guy (in honor of his other passion)....and the horse he rode in on?

Thank much.

:-)

OT, but they're doing the awards night on CBC right now, and they've got a "red-carpet" sorta thing set up to interview players as they go in, with fans outside taking pictures and all. Scott Oake is playing the part of Joan Rivers it seems.

My mom and sister are making fun of speaking skills of Scott Neidermayer at the moment.

Oh, congrats Grabia. Good to see this blog will live to fight another year.

Can you tell the other guy (in honor of his other passion)....and the horse he rode in on?

What other guy? I thought this was a full-time Oilers blog. That Fenwick guy is still around? Really? I though maybe he had died. Choked to death or something. Or was that just his team?

Oh, this is going to be fun.

If I remember correctly, it's a Battle of Alberta blog as well as a hockey blog...you guys have a few more football games to talk about, with a bit BoA game coming up on Saturday night. Get to it, ladz! I don't want to be the ONLY FRICKEN CFL GUY ON THE WEB! :P (ok, maybe I do, but still).

As much of an Oil fan as I am, I'd love to see the Evil Empire get their asses handed to them by the equally evil Stampeders (what can I say, I like in Saskatoon, I'm a Green and White kind of guy)

"Choked to death or something. Or was that just his team?
Oh, this is going to be fun."

Lame-O. You mean you couldn't manage a brain fart large enough to produce a golfing crack?

Try harder, or Fenwick the Flamer will own you.

You mean you couldn't manage a brain fart large enough to produce a golfing crack?

No, I was too busy signing up for a Blogger ID, rather than just posting anonymously.

Anonymous,

Have you tired the HF Boards? I think it's more up your alley.

Congratulations Mr. Grabia. You better do a good job or else... [fist swirls threateningly in the air]

"Tired" the HF Boards? Man, you and the words are having a hard time getting along lately.

I envision you like an old-time boxer, arms out and moving. Like a drunken Hemingway in a fist-fight.

Wow. Great news! My two favorite blogs coming together. BofA and SM (and the excellent links) are pretty well the reason that all of my projects are going off the rails these days! The equestrian coverage is just a bonus.

Thanks for the great site(s)!

Sigh. I think it's the heat here in Toronto. I sweat just sitting here in my apartment.

I never believed the old "dry heat in Alberta" story until I was in Ottawa last year. It's ridiculous out there. Another good reason to never leave Alberta.

I'm just scared that this "Andy" fellow will use my drunken post-game 7 quote at some point in the future.

But then again, if the Oilers re-sign Reasoner, I'll be providing enough comedy material for the upcoming year.

Ha.
