Pathetic

I'm too steamed to write much tonight.

I will note, however, that I feel much better about this 2-0 deficit than I did after the first two games vs San Jose.

Quite simply, the Oilers played like a bunch of dickheads. They tried to be too cute instead of just shooting the damn puck at a goalie who was giving out rebounds like a trampoline. They took idiotic penalties. They gave up odd-man rushes on stupid pinches. They refused to direct anything towards the net on powerplays. At least Hemsky looked good.

I'm actually happy the Oil got spanked tonight. If you are going to lose a game, you might as well do it in a fashion that pisses some people off. This was such a frustrating game to watch. I was absolutely furious for most of it. I'm still furious. I'm livid. I want to go to the airport to meet the players -- and kick their asses.

The good news is that it looked like some of the players were also furious -- at least at the end. I wish they'd shown a little passion earlier in the game.

Game 3 is obviously a must win. Strangely, I'm more confident about that one than I was about tonight. Jussi was fine. In fact, I'm pretty confident now that Edmonton's goaltending is not going to be the deciding issue. It's the skaters who have to get their acts together.

What a disgrace.

Comments:

I'll go to the airport with you. Fucking embarrassing.

I turned it off after the 4th goal, but from what I saw, I have to disagree with you with regards to comparing this and the SJ series, I feel much worse about this one.

In San Jose, the Oil were a couple of breaks away from taking one, if not both of the games. In Carolina, they played like ass for the last 80 minutes of the two games.

I'm not counting on this series going much longer.

So that's what fans are like up in Canada, eh?

Isn't Dukes of Hazzard on or something, Cletus?

Hyuck Hyuck!

Good one Cletus.

Here's a question for you. If people in Carolina get divorced, are they still siblings?

Bite me you Yankee bastard!

Hee hee

What's funnier? Mocking people about the shade of red on their neck... or that it's coming from -rather than directed at - Edmonton.

I'm not counting on this series going much longer.

I think looks can also be deceiving. Sure it's a blown game, but I think the Oilers have some fight in them -- I expect a different team come Friday when they play to a home crowd. The Oilers will figure it out and make a series of it.

Although I'm a 'Canes fan, I know the Oilers will fight hard. I'm not fooled by game 2.

For all their cute passing, they sure couldn't take advantage of the 'Canes over-pressuring the puck on the power play. How often was the defenseman attacked by one or two Carolina players at the blue line and nothing resulted down low?

I dunno, I thought the Oil came out really strongly in the 1st, all they needed was the 1st goal to build on.

They might have even won this thing if those defencemen didn't pinch so aggressively in the first. Yeah, that 1st goal was an unfortunate deflection, but they shouldn't have been giving up all those odd-man rushes. It doesn't matter if the goalie is Markkanen or Pat Roy, that's just poor hockey strategy, especially in the Finals.

"winds of a hurricane", please STFU. You're an embarrassment, with all the stupid comments you've been making tonight.

Frickin' n00b bandwagoner dumbasses....

Let me take a small stab at this being down 2-0 vs Car as opposed to being down 2-0 vs SJ.

Heading home after the games in SJ the Oilers had really been outchanced..certainly more than they'd been in these two games combined in Carolina. And heading into the series in SJ I was thinking we'd eventually get to their young defense. The Car defense isn't young but I think we can get to them nonetheless.

The differences are that we don't have Rolo anymore and that's gonna make a huge difference in how we kill off penalties. SJ didn't get a sniff in the last 4 games of the series and Carolina won't have that problem with Jussi in net.

Of course a good way to kill penalties is not to take so many of them but no one's really wanted to talk about that through this run but it's been a problem problem.

And I think that's what will keep them from winning both games at Rexall. Seeing the way we got blown out tonight reminds me of an old Dallas series and in keeping with that theme I say we win G3 but we lose G4 by a goal.

And then we're down in G5.

>They gave up odd-man rushes on stupid pinches.

Yep. It was still 0-0 when I was screaming like a little girl at the corporate boardroom TV, "WHAT are YOU DOING???"

Staios, Spacek, Bergeron made horrendous decisions against a team that is only going to win on endless 2 on 1s and powerplays. We played right into their hands, and it has nothing to do with goaltending.

Expect a neutral zone trap Saturday.

They did it to SJ and they can do it to Carolina. They just gotta take a good look in the mirror and ask themselves how bad they really want this thing. Sure they had a good 1st period but puck possession doesnt win hockey games. Hitting, shooting and scoring on rebounds and second chances does. I didn't see the edge from the Oil that I was hoping for after they got down 2. It seems like our D was playing like they did during stretches of the regular season. Can't blame Markannen on anything, I think even if Roli was in we would have lost. I expect a much better effort at home in gm3 or we are done like dinner.

Should be intense at Rexall on Saturday.

Yea Achtungbaby I think that's a good idea. That's the year I started watching hockey and the Oilers when I was 5. Good memories for sure.

I'm normally a big fan, Sacamano. But I have to agree that saying "I'm actually happy the Oil got spanked tonight" pushes the limits of suck.

I agree with Sac. If you are going to lose, you might as well have no doubt in your mind that you got your ass kicked. Leaving the rink thinking, "well, it wasn't that bad, we don't have to change things" is a recipe for disaster. I think the comment was made in that sense, and I 100% agree.

P.S. We need a lengthy Cosh post. Weren't we down 2-0 against San Jose, and he hadn't written anything in a week? Same thing going on here. Someone drag him out of his bed and get him in front of a monitor. Bacterial infections are for losers. Lengthy diatribes on the splendor of the Oil are for Champions.

And can someone in Toronto do their best to blow out the CBC's power? I won't say blow it up because, well, you know...Them showing old Oilers games is yet another example of how the East is trying to screw the West. It's the karmic equivalent of the NEP.

Exactly. Obviously I'm not happy they lost. I can understand the Canes fans missing the subtlty of the argument by taking it out of context . . . but David?

I have to disagree with Markkanen being ok. I think he was well below average in his performance. More importantly though, the team is playing like it did during the regular season with Conkkanen in net. Scrambly, not converting on chances, too concerned with keeping everything in the other end or away from the goalie rather than making the right play. Like MC said previously, I've seen this film before.

Still steamed, Sac?

you should know that they play in the shadows of 3 highly rated universities and that the fans in RBC are typically classified as 'higher-end yuppies' that probably make our home crowd look like farmers visiting the big smoke.

Several points:

1) If by "highly rated" you mean their NCAA Basketball Rankings, then I agree that the Tobacco Road schools are exceptional.

2) If by "fans" you mean the Oilers faithful who went down to Raleigh and filled the seats, then I agree that they are higher-end yuppies.

3) And if by "our home crowd" you mean the knuckle draggers filling up the Saddledome on a yearly basis, then I agree that they look like farmers.

Of course this is all just playing around. We are bored up here, and our team is down two games. We have to have fun somehow.

Although not as depressed as my buddy, whose wife refused to allow him to pick up his newborn because she didn't trust his judgement under the circumstances.

Now that sounds like a guy I can respect.
