Playoff Talk

I can see why rhuck was so averse to the his Flames advancing deep into playoffs. This totally sucks.

Quick Thoughts:

Comments:

Given that Peca shaved his beard and played his best game of the season, I think we can all safely shave whenever the hell we want. This is good news, because I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this thing if the temperature continues to break 30.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Why even bother?

You can't base your shaving habits on Michael Peca.

A) Regular season Peca shaves at approximately 5pm local time on game day.

B) Meanwhile Playoff Peca shaves at noon on game day.

If he didn't shave this often he'd have to put braids in his beard and his pre-game meal would be straining plankton from sea water.

Here is a duck's blog, not updated very well though

Question Oilers fans: Am I allowed to wax out an Oil drop in my chest hair?

I want to make a "gesture" of "fandom" without upsetting the sacred balance.

Battle of California becomes the defacto Ducks blog, with Earl dealing with all of the forthcoming punishment. You'd think a sister site would want to promote its, uh, sister.

As for the broadcast crew, I'd say it's 90-per-cent certain Cole and Neale will get the call. TSN is going to be doing a good portion of the Buffalo-Carolina series, and I can't imagine CBC will put their oldtimers away. Should be able to find out tonight for sure.

Have you noticed something about this Oiler team? It's spooky: they never go offside. I don't literally mean "never": the odd time, Hemsky will have a brainfart at the point and swap the puck out-and-in and get caught, or whatever. But for the most part... on a normal breakout from the neutral zone, they just never, ever go offside. Maybe once or twice a game, tops. That's what it feels like, anyway.

In the San Jose series this might have been just as important as the faceoff dominance they established at home. The Sharks, the top lines in particular, seemed to lose about 20% of their offensive chances to offside whistles. The Oilers hardly lost any, even at times when the lead player got hung up at the blue line and his linemates were going great guns. They haven't been playing dump-and-chase hockey, either, not since game 2 vs. Detroit. It's kind of uncanny.

Am I crazy, or is there not a single blog dedicated to the Ducks. Could it have something to do with the fact that playoff games -- including last night's game -- aren't televised down there?

That's already a myth that should be shot down, as I watched the game on OLN in L.A.

I was shocked that tonight was [Roloson's] first ever playoff shutout.

Yeah, if you get a chance ask Rollie what happened the last time he faced the Ducks in the conference finals. I recall there were some shutouts then.

Friday? The next round starts on Friday?

This is exactly what happened to the Ducks after round 1, and it worked out well for them. They turned a game seven shutout into a G7-G1-G2 shutout.

CC:
Great point about offside. I hadn't thought of it but now that you mention it they do seem extremely disciplined in that area too. Even Raffi, who God love him appears to leave his brain in the upper level from time to time.

rq makes a strong point about Peca, he could star in a Werewolf movie. Take his teeth out and it would be real scary.

Well, I did already have the BofC listed, but at the time I was looking last night, this post did not inspire confidence.

I'm relieved to see that you and Earl are going to keep it going.

That post was to inspire some post-postseason eulogies from the Sharks contributors (whom I hope don't quit contributing).

I'll make sure to save you guys a spot as well ;)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! We have to start a petition to get Hughson. We just have to.

Mike W., wax away!

Has anyone noticed that the last time the Oilers made it to the Conference Finals the Conservatives were in power in Ottawa?

Once the Liberals ascended to high office the Oilers began a downward spiral which lasted over a decade.

In fact, since 1993, the last playoff series under a Federal Conservative Government, no Canadian team has won Lord Stanley's hardware.

Now with the Conservatives back in power winning ways are returning to the City of Champions and the prospect of a Canadian team winning the Cup is not that much of a stretch.

Bottom line: Liberal government is apparently bad for Canadian and Oiler hockey.

Thank goodness, for that. I hope you can round up a few more fans that we Oilers fans can deride and mock.

Up is down, black is white, dogs and cats sleeping togehter, the Oilers in the Conference Final.

Nothing makes sense anymore.

Here's a good story for you guys. The DJ's on Rock 102 in Saskatoon had a bet riding on this series. The Calgary fan took San Jose, and the Oiler fan, well, you know. The loser was to walk across University bridge wearing a bra, panties, stockings, garder and makeup, while walking a french poodle.

And the Flames fan WELCHED ON THE FRICKEN BET! He's been getting angry calls on the radio all morning :P

According to this morning's edition of the globe and mail:

"The CBC's Hockey Night in Canada will broadcast the entire Edmonton Oilers-Anaheim Mighty Ducks National Hockey League Western Conference final, starting tomorrow. Bob Cole and Harry Neale will call the games, and Don Cherry will be the studio commentator.

The Eastern Conference final, Buffalo Sabres-Caroline Hurricanes, will be shared by the CBC and TSN. TSN will air the first two games on Saturday and Monday, as well as the sixth and seventh games if necessary. Gord Miller and Pierre McGuire will provide the play-by-play. The CBC will pick up the third and fourth games and the fifth game if necessary. Jim Hughson and Greg Millen will call the games." by William Houston.

There you go. CBC hates the Oilers. heh.

Oh man, we lose Hughson and Hrudey?

Brutal.

Yeeeepp.
In the west, you know you've gone far in the playoffs when Bob Cole graces your arena UGH...

Last season seeing Bob Cole sitting in the "Ed Whalen Broadcast Booth" was just plain weird.

average lifespan of a flag in Calgary: 2 hours.

I figured it was safish this morning to fly it.......apparently not.

Time to move back home to Edmonton.

According to this morning's edition of the globe and mail:

I have no idea why I didn't know that.
