Oilers Game Day - Sharks
Whew. With all the trade deadline excitement, I almost forgot that the Oil play in San Jose tonight (PPV only). Presumably Rollie will be in net, but Samsonov will not be able to make the game.
Going forward, this appears to be the team:
Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Torres - Stoll - Samsonov
Moreau - Peca - Dvorak
Pisani - Murray - Laraque

I really like the look of that team.
Prediction: 3-0 Oilers (D-vo with the hat trick)
PS: Good to see that Calgary upgraded their scoring by acquiring noted sniper and career -14 Jamie Lundmark

I can't see Sammy being altered over to the RW and Pisani flipped over to the LW...if anything, MacT moves Torres down a notch and lets the fiestiness flow on the 4th line. Overall, huge upgrade in touch around the net as well as defensively with Rem The Gem.
I totally agree phantomjoe1920. Torres is the logical choice to get bumped. If Samsonov has built his career +/- on puck possession as much as Joe Thornton association, then a line of Samsonov/Stoll/Dvorak should be a formidable outscoring line at ES.
I dunno. Samsonov shoots right, and from what I understand plays everywhere.
I really can't see Torres going to the fourth line.
Whatever the line combos, I'm pretty happy.
As much as MacT likes to juggle the lines I don't think he will 'fiddle' with Sammy from his natural role of LW and will, moreso once the playoffs roll around, revert back to having his checkers with checkers and scorers with scorers on a line. Those top 2 lines look absolutely lethal and Sammy brings to the table the finishing/scoring touch that most thought and hoped Torres could provide on a consistent basis. Moving Torres down a notch should not be seen as a knock on him but rather a bit of a push for him to elevate his physical/fiesty play - he can earn his goals ala Moreau via the crash n' bang. The 3rd line is as good a shut-down line as any while that 4th line should provide a spark or momentum swing on more than one occassion.
I can't wait for the PLAYOFFS !!!
Roloson has done a fine job "putting the Sharks out of their misery" tonight. Had no idea Steve Bernier was such a sniper.
At the end of the day, all that matters is the Flames put 2 more points between themselves and the team clinging to the final playoff spot. The fact that the team in question is the Oilers is gravy.

Ya, me too.
That Torres/Stoll/Dvorak line just owns the puck when they are on the ice it seems, even though they haven't had too many breaks around the net in the last month or so, last night aside.
I like Dvorak, like Bure said about him: "He can do everything but finish". Fair comment methinks.
And Torres may be the only non-canine hockey player that sometimes uses his head to try and gain position. Giveaways or no, how can you not like a guy like that. :-)
And after games like last night it's easy to imagine Hemsky with a closet full of green jackets by the end of his career. And of course we all know it's a 'one step forward, one back' thing with young guys like that. Still, Pavelesque at times. Terrific PP guy though.
A lot of possibilities for MacTavish now, that's for sure. Personally I'd like to see all of Horcoff, Smyth, Dvorak, Stoll, Samsonov and Torres in top-six roles ... and Hemsky deeper down in the lineup playing almost all the PP time and taking fewer 5on5 minutes, and against opposition who are less likely to score on the chances he watches them take from 100 feet away. :-) And I'm sure I'm the only one who thinks so.
No, I actually wouldn't mind Hemsky getting slightly less 5on5 time -- at least until he learns to not turn the puck over so frequently.
Having said that, at least his turnovers are caused by him actually trying to do something as opposed to crapping the bed and just bobbling the puck under pressure, etc., which is the usual story with young players.
I have a lot more tolerance for thoe former turnovers than the latter.
