Flames Game Day

The Flames take on the San Jose Sharks tonight, for the 4th and final time of the season. It's the late Hockey Night in Canada game, which likely means we get the wit and wisdom of Greg Millen.

Millen has spent the past 5 days reviewing tape of NHL officiating, trying to figure out whether the cardinal sin in the New NHL is taking a hand off of your stick, or keeping both hands on it. (I kid; he's doing no such thing, and will continue to contradict himself and make very little sense when analyzing penalty calls).

The Sharks are coming off a loss to the Oil last night, on a late, lovely, Kovalev-esque goal by Alish Hemsky. I really thought San Jose made a statement in their home loss to the Flames last month ("We're a 10th-place team!"), and last night affirms it. What's in store tonight? Uhh, let's see, bold predictions...
Game score: I think it's a 2nd straight 3-1 win, though no waiting for the empty net to put in the 3rd tonight. Go Flames.

Comments:

Good Game Boys.

Anyone watching last night's pregame interview between Sutter and Scott Oake saw a classic of the genre.

Paraphrasing:

Oake: You have a good record at home, but don't score many goals. Any chance of addressing that before the deadline?

Sutter: We score about 3 goals a game at home, which should be enough to win, and if we don't, it's just you media nitwits making an issue out of it, so who cares? Anyway, all that's out there for available players are old guys that are overpaid. You're really annoying me with these stupid questions. Can I leave now? Good.

The CBC types were talking about Sutter having his "game face" on (always makes me think of that Bobby Knight clip), but I'm guessing any Calgary reporter would just say, "welcome to my world, buddy." Trust me, I can't even begin to do justice to the disdain Sutter had for Oake. Impressive, in its own way.
