Good one, Steve

Ferguson likes to insist this is all part of a plan: And if the plan is to miss the playoffs, it appears to be working.

And yet if someone from the Leafs' organization punched Steve Simmons in the face, they'd be the one arrested and jailed. What a crazy world.

Comments:

Simmons ignores the fact that the Leafs also had to replace the points which had been generated by Nolan, Nieuwy, Roberts and Mogilny (and no, getting those injury-prone geezers back for the money they wanted did not seem to be a smart move). Doing that and upgrading the defence while still on the hook for some pretty big contracts was always going to be tough, if not impossible.

Instead of this kind of lame drive-by "analysis", Simmons would do better to actually detail, even with the benefit of hindsight, exactly what Ferguson should have done. Get Cross from the Oilers?

For better or worse, Ferguson always said he was looking at the coming summer to make fundamental moves. UP to the last few weeks, that had seemed like a decent plan. We'll see how that works out. It's not like Leaf fans have never had to endure the ignominy of missing the playoffs before.
