Odds to win the Stanley Cup, 8:50PM MST, 2005/12/22:
Calgary is the same odds as preseason. Ottawa is +200, equivalent to the oddsmakers saying they have a bit better than a 1-in-3 chance. The defending champs are +1800. And the up-and-comers who could have tied Ottawa for the Northeast Division lead by beating Florida tonight are still +4000: that's a 40-to-1 payout, and if you think they're even remotely for real, that's a heck of a buy.

- Edmonton: +2500
- Minnesota: +5000

But have you noticed how fragile these Finnish goalies sometimes turn out to be? Is it something in the diet? Poor Pasi Nurminen is done at age 29, Lehtonen's career keeps getting delayed by nagging injuries, Jani Hurme just got back to the AHL after missing 2½ years with back trouble (-->spinal infection -->repeated bone fractures from cortisone)... I mean, it's almost kind of freaky when you look at it. I'm just sayin'.
