I forgot to send out the invitation . . . many apologies!

Well, whadda ya know.

Leg One of the Plausible Prognostication is complete -- and with two bonuses: a Nashville loss and a Calgary loss.

When I put those projections up, I assumed that it was the Avs who were most likely to suck down the stretch. But you know what they say about making assumptions . . . Let me be the first to admit that I'm an ass and to apologize wholeheartedly to all of you Flames fans for underestimating your team. Welcome to the Party!

6. Vancouver 84 points
7. Calgary 84 points
8. Colorado 84 points
9. Nashville 80 points
10. Edmonton 79 points
11-15. A bunch of losers

The end result of this is that the Falmes-Avalanche game tomorrow night becomes somewhat more cheerful to watch. While it is preferable, I suppose, if Calgary wins because of their game in hand over Colorado, the balance has tipped somewhat and, to be honest, I don't really care who wins so long as it doesn't go to OT.

Comments:

How the hell did this happen? 5 points out? Still, if I remember correctly, we had hopes of making the playoffs last year around early February, and we had a couple "must-win" games against the Canucks, and I believe they stomped the crap out of us. Different team, obviously. All I'm saying is that I'm waiting until after that game tomorrow to get my hopes up. I don't dare dream. Not yet.

Hee Haw! Hee hee hee hee hee haw!

I like the whole "nothing to lose" feeling coming from this Oilers team.. they are so young that they don't understand how much lower in the standings they should be.

tomorrow night should be a great game indeed, said the vancouver fan.

part of me is rooting for the oilers to make the playoffs since they are more likely than the flames to knock off the red wings. they just have this "unlikely" hope thing going for them, and the flames just can't be counted on to upset anyone ;-).

off topic: how exactly do you pronounce "falmes" -- is it "fall meez" or "falmz"? And why is this a put down? (I actually looked it up in the 3 years of BoA glossary, but it's not there.)

they seem like they are having a lot more fun than usual for this time of year. I agree that the nothing to lose attitude has helped. Once everybody started talking about the again though I was worried that they'd blow the game to the coyotes, but somehow they found 8 goals. Should be a good ride. Either way, I must say that I'm looking forward to our line combo's next year. You get guys back healthy and you get a full year of kid line... should be brighter days ahead.

Also glad that Burke won't get a lottery pick

They won but gave up 4 goals. I'm thinking this would be a good diplomatic time to go back to Garon.

Roli's confidence stays up with 3 straight wins, but it wasn't so great in the last game that you can't let Garon back in for a couple too.

Hopefully we can just rotate hot games

I'm hoping the Oilers at least win the next 2 to make it close, just so we can witness all the commentators sound off on how they had this feeling all along that Edmonton was going to make it close, and I especially look forward to Pierre McGuire arguing with himself over whether Gagner or Cogliano is more of a Monster...

You guys seem like leaf fans more and more these days! 5 points out is just the same as 15 points. There is no way that the Oilers can make it up on anyone. I see them being returned to there bitter reality starting on Thursday. This team is far worse than you Oil fans know, and your super rookies are only super in your hearts. They didnt even get a sniff when HockeyNews did there top 5 rookies of the year a while back.
This year and next year can be chalked to young players, after that the losing will be chalked to not enough talent...
GAME OVER...

"falmz"?

In my head, I say falmz.
But, to be honest, I've never actually heard it said, so I'm just guessing.
The l could be silent for all I know.[fammz]

ah vancouver fans...their bitter self hatred that manifests itself by putting down anyone who doesn't wish to live in poverty in their junky paradise by the sea never gets old (longest sentence ever). you'd chalk it up to drunken belligerence but 99% of them are lightweights when it comes to the booze.

They also have small penises.

i knew i missed something. damn it!!!!

ps i fully expect those knuckles to become a permanent tattoo. i'll pay for it if that's any sort of incentive.

Guilty as charged

They also have small penises.

Ironic, in that Edmonton radio station "the Bear" had a smallest penis contest two years ago.

Scroll halfway down, not safe for work...

Let's try that again with html code, this time.

I drink the wine from your sour grapes, Edmonton fans! Frankly if I had to live in northern Alberta, I'd resent beautiful Vancouver just as much as you do. Cherry blossoms out today--another perfect day on the west coast.

"Coming up on TSN, Pierre McGuire asks the question: Frodo or Sam Gagner? WHO'S MORE MONSTER?"

Frodo and Sam Gagner share a few similar characteristics.
1. Both tiny little halfings
2. Both really really annoying to have to watch.
3. Both are made to look better than they are by the supporting cast.

Ps. Vancouver is beautiful, and Edmonton is ugly with no redeeming quality.

Hey, did everyone know it's beautiful in Vancouver? I'd never heard that one before.

It's beautiful in Smithers, too.

But a lot less people and a lot less services/amenities.

gosh, it's tough trying to have a friendly rivalry here. (i actually live in toronto, so no cherry blossoms here). i really am looking forward to the game tomorrow. both teams are playing for keeps, and it should be a good one.

thx mr debakey for the answer...but i still don't get why "falmes" is a put-down, except by tradition?

@ antro:

Earlier this season, I think it was, a poster (Calgary fan) came on doing nothing but ripping the Oilers, and he (or she?) actually misspelled his own team, calling them the Falmes.

It made him an easy object of ridicule, like someone who misspells his own name, and so falmes has become a put-down for the Flames. (Kind of an inside joke.)

Actually, one of the guys at Covered in Oil did a very funny post where he misspelled a bunch of words and photo-shopped typos into a bunch of pictures just after the falmes thing really started. It was a scream.

My mistake - the falmes fan must have shown up LAST season, as the post I was trying to remember was from June.

Good read.

am i going to have to stab you? meet me at 601 east hastings. i'll be the guy admiring the cherry blossoms.

Stanley Cup banners are pretty beautiful. Then again, what would a mouth-breathing Canuck fan know about that?

By the way Andy, which Sedin twin is that in the picture accompanying the original post? It's hard to tell those two apart sometimes....

Oh, that thread was good times. Thanks Baroque. I'm not sure who won that one: Littlefury, for his summary of Mclea's "contributions," or Mclea himself, for setting him up so nicely.

God, we haven't been nearly catty enough with the Falmes fans this year. Too much effort spent on friggin' Vancouver.

As a Nuck fan I must acknowledge the painful truth: you have 5, and we have none. Building a winner, as they say, lo these 38 years.

Which is why I was happy--oh so happy--to see Carolina win in 7. Good times, baby. Good times.

I've got a banner from the Canucks 20th anniversary that says "building a winner" in lovely italicized letters.

"Le Sigh", as they say.

Was one of three people at the Smithers Boston Pizza cheering for the 'Canes. Got a beer splashed on me for my efforts. Good times, indeed.

No Raffi Torres and no Matt Cooke makes me wonder exactly what this game is going to look like. The new breeds of agitator/instigator/pest will get their chance to shine, I suppose. Should be a good one.

it's hard to pick fights with fans that equate first round playoff losses to stanley cups.

Between Burrows, Kesler, Glencross and Stortini, I think the "asshole factor" will be more than sufficient for a hum-dinger barn-burner tonight.

Not sure what magical place you live, but in my Vancouver it was overcast and pissing rain all day, same as it's been for the last week and a half and looks to be for the next few days. And possibly forever.

Let's be fair. Vancouver is utterly spectacular when the sun is out. Granted, it's only out for three days a year. But in those three days...

hey baroque...thanks! that was one hilarious read. damn! oilers fans have great blogs (i know, i know, it's been said before).

falmes it is!

reading those posts brought me to one conclusion:

next time i donate money to charity, it will be directed towards literacy programs in calgary.

Sure, heed: throw your money away.
