Spot the anachronisms
Looked into the stub vault for evidence of home openers gone by, and found this beauty.
I love that old Sabres logo. It would never be designed today in 100 drafts, because it's too obvious. (We're the Buffalo Sabres, so let's make it a buffalo, and two sabres!) But I find it attractive, and even dignified.
I'm of the age where it doesn't conjure up images of Gil Perrault and the French Connection so much as multiple first-round playoff exits versus the Habs and Bruins. (And Dale Hawerchuk and Pat LaFontaine, slightly past their "best by" dates).
There's another way to know that this is an old stub, of course, even if the date were blanked out and you aren't a hockey fan.
Tonight, the Calgary Flames open up the home schedule of their 25th NHL season with a matchup against Johan Hedberg and the Dallas Stars (I guess the Oil will see Turco tomorrow). Here's hoping they're in a pissy mood when the puck drops.

Hey, more good news regarding tomorrow's goaltending matchup:
"Ty Conklin had a tough night in Los Angeles, but expect him to get the start against Dallas tomorrow"
Hedberg is better than the standard-issue backup, at any rate. I'm still a little pissed that the Kings seem to have found a goalie with some backbone.
Am I the only one who thinks of an Internet manhood-enhancement scam whenever the "Pengrowth Saddledome is mentioned"?
No, you're not the only one.
However, am I the only one noticing that "bank mergers" seems to be rapidly catching up to "bankruptcies" as the #1 cause of stadium name changes?
Or maybe "The Pengrowth Saddledome" could actually be a sexual position.
Some good news: I read last month that the Sabres are likely to return to their old classic jerseys again next year.
